Our Project Lifesaver International program has been going strong since we welcomed our first client in early 2018. Today we are happy to announce that we have signed up our 90th client!

A special heartfelt thank you to every family member/ caregiver, hospital and care home staff member and SSAR member who has taken on the important job of testing the transmitter battery daily and ensuring the battery gets replaced on time to ensure effectiveness. YOU are the true superheroes.

Thank you to Saskatoon Police Service for your partnership with SSAR and activating us quickly in the event of a Project Lifesaver search. As we all learned this winter, minutes count and, together, this program has saved lives.

Sponsorship and donations are the backbone of our Project Lifesaver program and without these important funds we would not be able to provide these lifesaving transmitters at no cost to families. 💦 Autism & Water Safety

Water safety is especially important for autistic individuals and families. Many autistic children are naturally drawn to water, which can increase risks during wandering or emergency situations.

Awareness, supervision, swim education, and safety planning can help prevent tragedies and create safer experiences around pools, lakes, and other water environments.

Drowning remains one of the leading causes of death associated with wandering, making water safety education an important part of emergency preparedness.

MISSING VULNERABLE PERSON LOCATED: Jun 22, 2026, Norfolk, Virginia — A 60-year-old male with dementia eloped from his home. Within 12 minutes of being notified that the man was missing, trained and equipped Electronic Search Specialist Master Deputy Tracy Reed, coordinator of the Norfolk Sheriff's Office’s Project Lifesaver expedited search-and-rescue program, located him sitting in a wheelchair in a vacant lot less than 1 mile from the incident’s point of origin. The man was returned safely, and the mission cleared having saved precious time, resources and, most importantly, life.

When a loved one with a cognitive condition wanders, traditional search and rescue operations take an average of 9 hours. But with Project Lifesaver, that time drops to under 30 minutes.

WTHR recently covered how central Indiana emergency teams are using these specialized radio-frequency bracelets to prevent tragedies. Because the devices are completely waterproof (up to 30 feet) and transmit a unique frequency, we can track them where GPS often fails—including heavily wooded areas or fields.

The Cicero Township Volunteer Fire Department is fully equipped and trained to deploy this exact lifesaving technology right here in Tipton County.

This page is to inform the community that we have this program. Project lifesaver is a program that we at Cicero Township Volunteer Fire Department offer for kids/adults that have autism or Alzheimer’s ect. that have a tendency to wander off. If you know have someone or know someone with these conditions please reach out to the fire department. This is a program to bring loved ones safely home to their families.
