African Road African Road builds long term relationships with local Changemakers, for the life, health and growth of communities in East Africa.

We are a global group of friends partnering with local changemakers for transformation in East Africa. We come alongside these leaders by providing respectful, practical help through financial support and collaborative project development. One more push for the girls of New Hope for Girls. 🎒

In Dar es Salaam, Changemakers Consoler and Eliya Wilbert foster 60 girls who would otherwise be at risk of child marriage or indentured servitude.

A recent funding setback means the girls are short on the essentials for a strong start to the school year.

We asked, and some of you have already answered. Thank you!

Every dollar goes directly to help fund their quality education. Every dollar counts.

Appreciation looks like a full table.

Last night we brought together the volunteers, workers, board members, Learning Trip alumni, and friends who made this year's African Road gala a grand event. We got back together and shared good food, good company, and real gratitude all around.

We didn't just celebrate though. We put in some work too, sitting down together to start shaping what next year's gala will look like.

And through it all, one thing stayed constant: the Changemakers. Learning from them at the gala left a mark on everyone in that room, and it showed last night too.

Thank you to our community, and a special thanks to our hosts Dennis and Janie Henderson for a magical evening.

This is what community looks like. Stay close, 2027 is already in motion.

Happy Sunday! It's back to school time for the girls of New Hope for Girls.

In Dar es Salaam, Changemakers Consoler and Eliya Wilbert foster 60 girls who would otherwise be at risk of child marriage or indentured servitude. Under Consoler's wise and loving leadership, New Hope for Girls gives girls and young women safety, encouragement, education, and a real shot a bright future.

A recent funding setback means the girls are short on the essentials for a strong start to the school year.

Every dollar is stretched to see each girl get a quality education.

$60 a month per girl meets costs for uniforms, supplies, lunches and transportation.

$75 per month covers tuition and school fees.

A gift of any size helps carry the girls forward. Your gift will be stretched to meet as many needs as possible and to see girls succeed.

In 2020, African Road and the Portland Timbers built a soccer pitch in Rwanda. It was the first 'Fields For All' grant for a pitch built outside of the US, and what an impact it has made over the years.

African Road Executive Director Kelly Bean said it best: "This remains such a special partnership. So grateful for the Portland Timbers ‘Stand Together, Fields for All’ grant and engagement. This soccer pitch serves thousands of youth in Rwanda and is a place of great joy and skill building and girls empowerment."

Big thank you to the Timbers and our worldwide community of partners for making it happen. Here's to the next 10. 🎉

From African Road Executive Director Kelly Bean (August 1):

"I’ve been home from East Africa for five days. My last week of travel was shaped by hours of deep conversations, listening, and collaborative strategic planning with Steven and Peninah at 'The Community of Togetherness' in Rwanda.

This newly completed room at Togetherness Primary school is designated as a future computer lab in order to both comply with government requirements and to equip students for the future. They are well on their way and it’s such an honor to go forward together. African Road partnerships and progress. Truly a joy."
