If you've ever looked out from the hills of Tiburon and enjoyed the spectacular view across open land to the Golden Gate Bridge, Angel Island and the East Bay, you already know the stakes. One of the last great open spaces in southern Marin County is in danger of being developed if we don't act now! There's a plan to build up to 43 very large houses (average size 7,500 square feet) on the Easton P
oint property at the tip of the Tiburon Peninsula, also known as the Martha Property, which will change the face of this magnificent open space forever and render these amazing views accessible to only a very wealthy few. The entire 800+ page DEIR for the Martha Property project (now called Easton Point) is available for viewing and downloading at: http://www.co.marin.ca.us/depts/CD/main/pdf/eir/2008_Easton_Point_DEIR_CD.pdf, but thereโs no need to read the entire document. The best thing to do is to pick out an area that is of most concern or interest to you, keeping in mind that the most effective comments will be those that focus on health and safety issues and endangered species. Section 2.3 (page 18) Scoping Comments And Areas Of Controversy and Section 2.5 (Page 49) Major EIR Conclusions and Issues to be Resolved are good summaries. How can you help?
1. For more information please visit our website at www.tibruronopenspace.org
2. Contribute your time, cash, and/or your expertise
This may very well be the last chance to save our remaining magnificent open lands from further development. For this effort, we need a committed community. If this matters to you, please lend your hand and voice. Monetary contributions are needed to support our legal and outreach efforts, but so are pro bono services of lawyers, geologists, land use experts, and EVERYONE who can help us get the word out about this vital issue preserving Marin Countyโs beautiful legacy for future generations. We especially need the help of college, high school, and younger students who can take on this issue through Social Media and may want to make it a community service or class project.
