The Safe School Meals Coalition zoom meeting was a hit! Very informative and motivating. Non toxic, organic food is already being served in school districts around the US with a school population greater than Thorndale-so this can be done for our students in our district. I’ll share my notes and keynote speakers and how we can get the ball rolling for healthier options in TISD!

Do you want safer, non toxic, nutrient dense food in your child or grandchild's school?
Join us for our Safe School Meals Coalition Kick Off Call on March 18th at 2- 3 pm ET . We are gathering to support mothers and others who are working to reduce toxic exposure to children and get organic, local food into their schools. No matter what Trump or Kennedy do on the Hill - we feel we can move forward with getting healthy food in many of our schools now.

This Zoom call will be an opportunity for a few experienced people to share how they have gotten organic, local and seasonal food into schools or how they support the scratch kitchen build-out. Committed citizens who want to get started will be inspired and supported. We would like you or a representative to speak about how you have suported schools to serve safer, more nutrient dense, local food.

The goal is to meet, connect and get the ball rolling for further, monthly, more focused discussion by topic.

The synthetic dye dilemma

The synthetic dye dilemma

🚨 FIFTEEN STATES ARE TAKING A STAND AGAINST DYES! 🚨

They are listening to us! 🎉 15 states—Oklahoma, Indiana, Florida, Missouri, West Virginia, Virginia, Hawaii, Kentucky, Iowa, Texas, New York, Arizona, Tennessee, Utah, and Rhode Island—have introduced bills to address synthetic dyes in food.

🔥 Big wins so far:
✅ Arizona: The House voted 59-0 to ban dyes in schools!
✅ West Virginia: The bill passed the Health and Human Resources Committee 18-5!
✅ Utah: Just passed the House Education Committee 8-3!

Nothing is set in stone yet, but these are huge steps in the right direction! 🚀

Most of these bills aim to ban synthetic dyes in school meals, while others push for warning labels or statewide ban. California led the way as the first state to ban synthetic dyes in schools, and now momentum is building!

💡 To Dye For: The Documentary has been directly contacted by multiple states seeking support for legislation on synthetic dyes. We are currently working with some and in communication with others, including West Virginia, Virginia, Utah, Tennessee, and Indiana—and we’re open to helping wherever we can. We’ve testified at hearings and worked to bring in expert voices to counter industry opposition. The fight is tough—many of these companies already produce dye-free versions for other countries, yet they fiercely resist change in the U.S.

🔎 Right now, we’re actively working to find a sponsor for a Georgia bill and aligning with powerful organizations like EWG, CSPI, and Food Fight to ensure qualified experts are present at as many hearings as possible. The industries that profit from synthetic dyes are applying immense pressure, but we are not backing down.

💥 Ready to join the fight? Write to your state reps, senators, and members of health or education committees! Express your concerns about these bills or urge them to introduce similar legislation in your state. A link to email templates and a link to search for your state reps are in the comments.

These are the current bills:

Florida House Bill 611 - school dye ban
Florida Senate Bill 764 - warning label
Florida House Bill 641 - warning lavel
West Virginia House Bill 2354 - state dye ban
West Virginia Senate Bill 545 - school dye ban

Hawaii Senate Bill 791 - school dye ban
Kentucky House Bill 439 -school dye ban
Iowa House Bill 212 - school dye ban
Texas House Bill 1637 - school dye ban
Missouri House Bill 260 - warning label
Indiana House Bill 1655 - state dye and other chemicals ban
New York Assembly Bill 1556

Arizona House Bill 2164 - school dye ban
Tennessee House Bill 134 - school red 40 ban
Utah House Bill 402 -school dye ban
Rhode Island House Bill 5115 - school dye ban

This is huge progress, and we’re just getting started! 💪💙
