The monthly meeting of Spade and Trowel Garden Club was held yesterday, April 15th, at the beautiful home of Marty Thornhill. 💐

Hostesses were Thornhill, Angie Moore, Andrea Fallin, and Faye Bridges.

Lauren Hall presented the speaker, Dr. Jake Fountain, a plant pathologist and assistant professor of mycotoxicology and postharvest pathology at the University of Georgia’s Griffin Campus. 🥜🌱

At the meeting, members signed Mother’s Day cards for residents of Riverside Nursing Home. 💕

☘️🌈🤍Hailey Partain, Upson County Extension Agent, visited Spade and Trowel Garden Club’s monthly meeting on March 18 to share information about pollinators and soil selection.

Members brought to the meeting 13 pounds of pop tabs to donate to the Ronald McDonald House and several boxes of clothes and books to donate to the Heritage Family Resource Center.

The meeting hostesses were Helen Smith, Becky Dodgen, Glenda Stevens, Betty Presley, Charlene Woodall and Jane Varner. 🤍🌈☘️

🌳Kyle McGee, Public Works Director and Arborist for the City of Thomaston, presented “Tree Pruning 101” at Spade and Trowel Garden Club’s meeting today, hosted by Brenda Mimbs, Patsy Jo Adams, Katherine Williams and Ashley Wells.

“Prune in the winter,” McGee said. “Stay away from the branch collar and don’t remove more than 25% of the canopy.”

Introduced by Elizabeth Huckaby, McGee shared tips and information on the structural pruning process, pruning methods and shrub pruning practices.

Per request of the Garden Therapy Committee, club members brought diapers and wipes to the meeting to donate to the Heritage Family Resource Center. 💚

Our Garden Therapy Committee never fails to make others feel loved and special. Thank you to Katherine Williams, Bobbie Johnston, Martha Gaskins, Patsy Jo Adams, Bethany Trice and honorary member, Nora Trice, for making Valentine's Day cards to distribute to residents at Harborview Health Systems Thomaston. 💌❤️

Spade and Trowel Garden Club’s monthly meeting was today, Jan. 21, at First Baptist Church.

The meeting was hosted by Teresa Lowe, Martha Mercure and Nancy Allen. Anna Crawford presented the speaker, Taylor Smith, who gave an update on economic development efforts in the City of Thomaston.

Betty Franklin of the Artistic Design Committee went on to share how to prepare a whimsical winter arrangement and how to make a rosemary wreath. 💛
