Today, we celebrate not only those connected to us by blood, but also the many men who have stepped forward to mentor, encourage, teach, and love as father figures. Your presence, sacrifice, wisdom, and unwavering commitment help strengthen families, uplift communities, and shape future generations.

As we celebrate Juneteenth, I am reminded that freedom’s story is deeply rooted in Texas—the place where the news of emancipation finally reached those who had waited far too long to hear it.

I am especially proud to honor our beloved Soror Opal Lee, a distinguished member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated and a tireless champion whose vision, perseverance, and unwavering commitment helped make Juneteenth a federal holiday. Her legacy reminds us that one dedicated voice can inspire a nation.

As a fellow Texan, I carry that legacy with great pride. Today, we celebrate freedom, honor those who paved the way, and remain committed to the work of uplifting communities, advancing justice, and strengthening our Sisterhood.
