Thank you to everyone who braved the nor’easter to join us for our 6th annual Viva la Sound Environmental Festival! 🎉

We had an amazing time celebrating with you and loved seeing so many students and families enjoying face painting, knot tying, clay Reef Ball building, microscopes, and so much more!🔬🦪A huge thank you to our amazing partners who tabled at the festival to all of the restaurants who generously donated food. We’re so grateful for your support! 💙

A special congratulations to PS 175, who won the Most Colorful award, and PS 583, who won the Most Researchedaward in our mural painting contest! 🎨We loved seeing all of the creativity, research, and hard work that went into each mural!

And lastly, a BIG thank you to all of our interns and community volunteers who come back year after year to help make this event such a success. We couldn’t do it without you! 🌊

🎉 3 weeks till Viva La Sound! 🎉

Flashback to all of our awesome Viva workshops! 🌊

On the living shoreline, Bryant High School joined Jason from New York Restoration Project for watercoloring and sketching 🎨, and we teamed up with GreenLatinos for a living shoreline cleanup 🪴. Out on the water, we got hands-on with oyster monitoring and fish monitoring alongside marine scientist Barbara Warkentine! 🦪🐟🌊

Sneaking in on the last day😜 - it’s the August Creature Feature! We found FOUR American eels in our fish traps last month! 👀 These slippery swimmers have one of the wildest life cycles around. They are born in the Sargasso Sea, traveling thousands of miles to freshwater, and eventually returning to the Sargasso Sea to spawn.
