Hudson Gateway Association of REALTORS holds Flag Day Ceremony to thank the local community for the donation of a brand-new flag and flagpole line at the HGAR Bronx offices. Earlier this year, several storms caused the HGAR office flag pole line to break. The local American Legion Post 19 reached out to help, donating a new flag and flagpole line, then firefighters of Engine 90 Hook & Ladder 41 relined the pole. The new flag was officially raised and honored!

On Veterans Day, Post 19 made the rounds. The post was represented at Peace Plaza for Veterans Day ceremonies as well as at the Van Nest War Memorial, where Eddie Deglomini was presented with an award for his years of continued service to the community. After the ceremony, we proceeded to Woodlawn Cemetery where we held a ceremony at the grave of LT. John Fraser Bryan. We placed a floral arrangement made by Eddie’s wife Dina. The rain held out just long enough for us to stay dry and head to Applebees to eat.
In attendance, Francis Martinez, Mike Sardo, Tom Tramantano, John Pucci, Bob Desilva, Peter Schmid and Manlio Mondo.

Bernadette Ferrara
President, Van Nest Neighborhood Alliance
while there are seven wonders of the world, I must say that our cleanup on Amethyst Street could well be a close 8th! There was actually a sidewalk under that growth! A big Thank You to the American Legion NY Post 19 for initiating this clean up in Van Nest. A big Thank You to VNNA Marion Manfredi for contacting Ishmael from the Parks Department that came through with supplies. Thank You to VNNA Charmone Peets, William Peets and John Messenger! A big Thank You to the youth of the Bronx Muslim Center for their wonderful help. The biggest shout out was to Roland and his Sanitation crew who came in like gangbusters to help us cut down and clear it all away! True teamwork proved a great result for our Van Nest Community!
