Su***de prevention starts with connection. Sometimes, simply knowing that someone is willing to listen can make a meaningful difference.
Warning signs may include talking about wanting to die, feeling hopeless or trapped, withdrawing from others, increased alcohol or drug use, or sudden changes in mood or behavior.
If you are concerned about someone, ask directly, listen without judgment, and take their concerns seriously. You do not have to have all the answers. Offering support and helping someone connect with professional resources can be an important step.
If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. If there is immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
