I pulled back the blanket on one of our orphaned litters to say, ā€œHelloā€!! These spicy little babies will be able to be released in a few weeks. ā¤ļø

This little orphan I have now has a pretty gnarly injury to his back. He’s on antibiotics, bacitracin ointment, and some good ol’ TLC. He’s grouchy but eating and drinking well. I’m hoping there is no muscle damage. ā¤ļø

I am going temporarily suspend intakes right now for animals. I have over 30 opossums including a critically injured one along with two baby raccoons (which is like having 100 opossums) šŸ˜‚
It is just me so I want to be able to adequately and properly take care of everyone that I accept.
As soon as I open things back up I will post. 😊

All 9 baby possums survived the night. I didn’t feed them last night because it’s more important to keep them stable and warm the first night before you try and feed them. Luckily these babies were just old enough to not have to be tube feed. Opossums cannot be bottle fed like other babies can. They have to have a tube inserted down their throat and into their bellies until a certain size.
I was able to slowly syringe feed these babies with the proper formula. Some ate better than others, some are stronger than others too. Feeding them brings such peace to my heart. I see my sweet Lloyd and Loki in every one of them. ā¤ļø

My heart is whole again because we have baby possums in our house. I got a call today about a dead Mama possum that had 8 babies clinging to her. She had been hit by a car and took the brunt of the impact saving those 8 little babies. They are not in great shape. They are pale, covered in road rash, and are lethargic. But I am going to give them a chance at life and I’m hoping they hang on so they can be released in a few months and live a great life. I teared up seeing their little paws and tails covered in scrapes and blood. I wish more people realized what amazing creatures they are. ā¤ļø

Sometime this afternoon while he was sleeping, my sweet boy Loki’s heart stopped beating. Words can’t describe the pure joy and love he brought into my life. I will miss him forever. ā¤ļø
