Chandler Kimball Foundation for CTE Awareness

Chandler Kimball Foundation for CTE Awareness The game of football gave Chandler Kimball everything he needed. It gave him purpose and passion. It taught him focus and discipline.

The Chandler Kimball Foundation's mission is to raise awareness of CTE, the dangers of youth tackle football, and to provide family members resources they can utilize to support their decision to find safer sports for their children and loved ones. It showed him the value of hard work and determination. It brought him teamwork and togetherness. He loved his teammates, the Friday night lights, and

simply being on the field. It was a spiritual experience watching him play football. We soaked in every moment during this time; The smell of cut grass, endless summer practices, humid Saturday mornings putting the pads on, getting him fed and ready for the big game, and watching pregame warmups. It brought our family together in more ways than one and supporting our young man and his football was something we were all so proud of and totally about. But, we can’t deny the knowledge we have now. In the early 2000’s we weren’t aware of the dangers and lifelong risks of youth tackle football. Even then, if we did understand, maybe we wouldn’t have wanted to hear about it. The mission of the Chandler Kimball Foundation is to raise awareness of CTE, to educate and inform parents about scientific studies showing that enrolling their child in youth tackle football significantly increases the risk that their child may eventually develop CTE, and to provide family members tools and guidance they can utilize to support their decision in regards to finding alternative and safer sports for their children and loved ones. It is clear that youth tackle football is not worth the risk to the wellness and well-being of our children and our families. We see a day when no young athlete is put at risk of tackle football-induced CTE. Chandler Kimball Foundation for CTE Awareness is a US-based 501(c)(3) Corporation

Today is National CTE Awareness Day.
This is a day to reflect on those lost to & , how to help those suffering with the disease, and most importantly how to stop the disease.

This year’s awareness comes as the New York Times, The Washington Post, and multiple local media report on new research that shows the effects of repeated head impacts (RHI) are showing up more frequently, especially in younger athletes.

The public, especially parents of young athletes, should know this information to make informed decisions about when or whether their kids play contact sports.

To our supporters of the Chandler Kimball Foundation. We wanted to update you all and share some exciting information about the work we've been doing in the background with CKF related to a grant we received from Google for their AdWords marketing platform. Using targeted keyword advertisement, we've been able to raise awareness of CTE and the dangers of youth tackle football - and have reached many thousands of people interested in learning more about the risks and the disease. We began utilizing this AdWords grant exactly one year ago this month. Here's some key data points we're happy to share:

Total number of Impressions of our advertisements over the past year:
243,023
Total number of "clicks" to the foundation website at www.lifesbigwin.com over the past year:
22,170

Those impressions, and especially the click-throughs, give us hope that we are "planting seeds" and making a difference in honor of our Chan. We thank you for supporting the cause and are grateful to you for sharing Chan's story and raising awareness of CTE especially in young athletes.

"Robert Cantu, a neurosurgeon who was among the authors of that study and who has advised both amateur and professional sports leagues, told me that a player’s likelihood of developing CTE is determined not by the number of concussions suffered but by the total number of hits to the head and the cumulative years of playing tackle football.

“The risk of CTE starts after five years of football,” he said. “After 14 years, there is a tenfold risk. Eleven years seems to be the tipping point for entering the highest risk group.”

Cantu is among the advocates calling for no tackle football until high school. During a child’s early years, the brain is developing and is most vulnerable to trauma. Deferring contact football shortens the time that children are taking hits to the head and lessens their lifetime risk of CTE."

“The use of race-norming in the NFL concussion settlement first came to light in a lawsuit filed by two former players in 2020”.

After the end of 'race-norming,' more than 300 Black former NFL players originally denied payments now qualify for money or league-funded medical treatment.

Stefanie, a Scottsdale mom of an 8-year old boy, has done the research and talks about why she believes youth tackle football is not worth the risk.

We love and agree with Stefanie’s statement: “Now that we know better, we can do better.”

With your help and support spreading Chan’s message, we see a day when no young athlete is put at risk of tackle football-induced CTE.

Today is "I Got You" day. This day was created to honor an amazing young man, Jason Franklin. Although Jason and Chandler didn’t know one another, they attended ASU at the same time and both lost their battles with CTE within 6 months of each other.

You can honor Jason by following their Instagram and support the Foundation by spreading a little love by doing something good today (May 6th) for someone and simply telling them “I Got You”.

From the “I Got You” Foundation’s website:
Jason Franklin lost his battle with CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) on July 14th, 2018. To honor him, we have established the "I Got You" foundation. One of Jason's favorite saying's was "I Got You." He was always there for his friends and family. We all knew that Jason "got" us. So, we knew it would be the perfect name for our foundation. We would continue his legacy by making sure those in need had someone who could say "I Got You" to them. Each May 6th (Jason's birthday) we spend the day trying to help others… trying to show them that there are people out there that “got them” and are there to help get them through their day. We deliver money, clothes, food, personal care items and toys to homeless shelters, to individual homeless people we encounter on the streets, to food banks, to animal rescue organizations, to senior care centers, to veteran care centers and to many other charitable organizations. Each year we stop and wish Jason a happy birthday in the middle of our day and let him know that we are keeping his spirit alive. Thank you Jason for giving us a way to both honor you and make your birthday a happy day for so many going forward.
