"The golf league was formed in 1970 (formerly known as VDS Golf League, preceded by GTE Data Services Golf League) for the enjoyment and camaraderie of golfing employees, retirees, contractors, family members and others with a relationship to the telecommunications industry. In 2012, the TBGTE golf league played 4 Tampa Bay courses regularly including Tampa Palms (Mondays), Pebble Creek (Tuesdays)
, and Bloomingdale Golfers Club (Wednesdays) and Lexington Oaks (Thursdays). Spring/summer league starts the first week following the switchover to daylight savings time, and ends in August. Fall League starts immediately following and goes until the end of Daylight Savings Time.Sponsor and promotional opportunities through the league reach highly compensated employees of 7 different active telecommunications organizations within the Tampa Bay area. Each year TBGTE Golf League holds its 3-day year-end golf tournament in September after Spring/Summer league championships. In 2010, and 2011 it was held at the Reunion Resort in Kissimmee Florida. In 2013 the league is returning to Reunion Resort again, a reunion at Reunion, so to speak. In 2013 proceeds from our main tournament are being donated to a local charity, the American Cancer Society. For 100 years, the American Cancer Society has been leading the way to transform cancer from deadly to preventable. Proceeds from the 2012 event were donated to the Joshua House. Proceeds from the 2011 event were donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
