LAMPLighters

LAMPLighters In 1986, a few caring and dedicated volunteers joined together to form a support group for the Metropolitan Ministries in Tampa.

LAMPLighters mission is to support organizations serving homeless children and families in need by engaging in activities to improve their health, education, rehabilitation and by providing opportunities for their spiritual development. A desire to "light the way" for displaced families led to the selection of the name "LAMPLighters".

Yesterday, LAMPLighters Homeroom Moms Tina Dumar and Lisa Foster celebrated the end of the school year with Ms. Ferlita's fabulous 5th graders at Patricia J. Sullivan Partnership School on the Metropolitan Ministries Tampa campus. Tina and Lisa, who have been devoted Homeroom Moms since the start of the LAMPLighters Homeroom Mom program, are thrilled to be invited back by Ms. Ferlita for her class next year.

This activity is just one of the many meaningful, hands-on volunteer experiences LAMPLighters cherishes each year as we continue to brighten the lives of the children we serve.

Thank you, Tina and Lisa, for being such shining examples of the LAMPLighters’ mission in action.

Last week, 90 LAMPLighters members and guests gathered for our annual LAMPLighters End-of-Year Luncheon 2026 to celebrate a meaningful year of service, generosity, and impact in our community.

During the luncheon, we proudly presented our year-end donations to Metropolitan Ministries and Friends of Joshua House Foundation, Inc, bringing our total giving this year to $166,500 in support of homeless and foster children in the Tampa Bay community. With these contributions, LAMPLighters has now donated more than $3.9 million to these incredible organizations over the past 40 years.

These accomplishments are a true reflection of the countless volunteer hours, dedication, generosity, and compassion of our members and supporters. From fundraising events and children’s celebrations to service projects and behind-the-scenes efforts, every contribution helped make a lasting difference in the lives of the children and families we serve.

As we celebrate this incredible milestone year and look ahead, LAMPLighters is excited to welcome our incoming Board Officers, Committee Chairs, and Event Chairs, whose leadership, creativity, and dedication will continue to strengthen our mission and impact in the community. We are especially excited to support incoming Co-Presidents Yolanda Cielo and Elena Marrero as they lead LAMPLighters into another meaningful year of service, friendship, and giving back to Tampa Bay’s homeless and foster children.

Today we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedom. Their courage, service, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, may we take a moment to reflect with gratitude on those who gave everything in service to our nation. ❤️🤍💙

We were saddened to recently learn that beloved LAMPLighter Past President Cleta Alexander passed away last year. Cleta served as president from 2006–2007 and often graciously opened her beautiful Bayshore Boulevard home overlooking Hillsborough Bay for countless board meetings, gatherings, and socials over the years.

Cleta was the perfect combination of warmth, grace, and fun, and she made everyone feel welcome the moment they walked through her door. Her kindness and hospitality created wonderful memories and lasting friendships within LAMPLighters.

Though we have missed seeing her in recent years, we take comfort in knowing she is now resting peacefully in heaven. We send our love and condolences to all who knew and loved her.
