Tampa Bay AAZK Tampa BAY AAZK is the local chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers for Hillsborough, Pinellas and surrounding counties in Florida.

AAZK’s purpose is to foster a professional attitude in animal keepers and aquarists by encouraging them to become active members of professional teams at today’s zoos and aquariums. AAZK supports the promotion and implementation of zookeeper education and strives to make the general public aware of our concern for all deserving conservation projects and the need for the preservation of our natural resources and the species that depend on those resources.

Hello! As many of you have probably heard, Sloth World was a “slotharium” facility projected to open later this month in Orlando. However, after a series of unfortunate events, reports have stated that Sloth World will no longer be opening. Instead, the sloths are being sent to the Central Florida Zoo, which is a reputable AZA facility that can provide the proper care and give these sloths a fresh start. This is an example that highlights the importance of educating others about reputable facilities and ethical, animal care practices, especially with the climbing demand for exotic animals and the “ease” of obtaining them.

A huge shoutout to Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens for taking in these sloths. We are confident that the animals will get the care that they rightfully deserve. This is why we do what we do.
