Andrew Joseph, III Memorial Foundation "AJ Soars" Andrew Joseph, III was killed on February 7, 2014. Funds will help The Andrew Soars Foundation. We're asking for support as we educate and evaluate policy

Fourteen year old Andrew Joseph was hit by a 19 year old who was driving an SUV with his 17 year old female friend. The reports indicate that he was attempting to cross I-4 interstate. Earlier that evening prior to being killed by this driver, Andrew and some of his other friends were ejected/kicked out of the Florida State Fair on Student Day. On this day it was designated for students to attend

the fair and most areas school kids had the day off from school to attend the fair. As a result of the student day/free pass day many kids attended. And suffered as official dropped the kids off on the side of the road to find there own way home.;When kids are ejected the law enforcement indicated no policy which mandates that they call parents. With this flawed policy no parents were called and several young people that were subjected to this action were at risk. The health and safety of all ejected young people some as young as 12 years old were jeopardized by the failing to contact parents that the kids were being transported and moved from the fair grounds. This travesty has left Andrew Joseph,III dead and the Joseph family questioning policies and public entities that are funded and supported by young people and the parents lack of insight and knowledge on having a sound and complete confidence in the public entities that are thriving as a result of young children who are the primary supporters. Andrew III had a promising future and had just been excepted into a prestigious high school in the Tampa Bay area. Andrew had hopes and dreams and his parents supported him in making his dreams a reality. The society and community as a whole has lost an exceptional kid as a result of lack of care, compassionate and consideration of a 14 year old child. It is most unfortunate that the participated entities that were involved in this incident are adult figures who make policies are no longer interested in the common principal of protecting and serving the youth of today. "One call could have saved this kids life ". The family is requesting support as efforts are being made to illuminate the disparity among systems that are impeding the mission of protecting all children.

Today my heart is full as I received the news that my daughter is officially grown folks employed!
So we are over here as her parents doing flips and cart wheels. Celebrating our young adult as she officially signed her contract and begins her career in the very PR field she studied for. At just 22 years old, she has worked hard for this moment late nights, internships, sacrifices, and staying committed to her goals even when the road wasn’t easy.
As her mother, I have watched her grow into a determined, thoughtful, and professional young woman. Seeing her step into this next chapter fills me with deep pride and gratitude.
In this moment, I also want to thank the village that has poured into her along the way family, mentors, teachers, friends, and everyone who has supported, guided, and nurtured her to this day and will continue walking alongside her into the future. None of us reach these moments alone.
This moment is a reminder that the seeds you plant, nurture, and believe in will grow. Deja has put in the work, and now she begins walking fully in her purpose.
My heart is overflowing with pride for our daughter and all that lies ahead.

Congratulations, Deja Marie. Keep soaring my baby! You have earned your place.

In our last BHM post, we honored North Star, Mamie Till-Mobley, for her work as a civil rights & anti-police brutality advocate. Today, Voices of Florida Fund honors our Social Justice Rising Stars, Deanna Joseph & Tracey Washington.

Like Mamie Till-Mobley, both Deanna & Tracey lost their sons at the hands of a white supremacist system. In 2014, 14-year-old Andrew Joseph III was targeted, harassed, & physically searched by Hillsborough County sheriff deputies before being thrown out of the Florida State Fair & dropped off 2 miles away without parental notification. While trying to find his way back home, Andrew was hit & killed by a white motorist who was not charged. After years of organizing protests for her son against police misconduct & against qualified immunity, Deanna won a wrongful death suit against HSCO. Deanna Joseph, MSW is now the Co-Founder of Black Lives Matter Grassroots FL-Tampa & the Co-Founder of The Andrew Joseph Foundation.

In 2023, 36-year-old Breonte Johnson-Davis was suffering from a mental health crisis, but, instead of helping him, Palmetto police officers killed him by repeatedly tasing him, inducing fatal cardiac arrest. Breonte’s mother, Tracey Washington, has organized protests demanding justice for her son for police reform & against overpolicing of children while pursuing a wrongful death lawsuit. She is the Executive Director of Inc to Inc Entresition Services Inc, President of Manatee County NAACP, & the President & Founder of Walk A Mile In Our Shoes Inc.

Like Mamie Till-Mobley before them, both Deanna & Tracey have done more than just demand accountability for the deaths of their sons, they have organized & brought their communities together to oppose white supremacy & to demand justice for every victim of police misconduct.
