Background
The World Lebanese Cultural Union (WLCU) is an International Non-governmental Organization (INGO) first organized in 1959. The WLCU was instituted to promote the culture of Lebanese people throughout the world. The organization is non-sectarian, non-profit and independent of the Lebanese government. It is registered in Lebanon and recognized by its government as the sole representative
of the Lebanese immigrants and individuals of Lebanese origin around the world. The interests of the organization include the preservation of Lebanon as an independent democratic country, which promotes human rights, freedom and justice. Mission Statement
The WLCU strives to unite descendants of Lebanese origin and friends of Lebanon into one worldwide organization or union with the aim to promote and preserve Lebanese culture and heritage and to ensure its spirit and identity for generations to come. Goals
To the Lebanese Community:
To sponsor, promote and organize cultural, social and educational events highlighting Lebanese heritage. To the Local Community:
To be a vibrant, committed and caring member of our community; supporting local charities, involving members when needed in service of the community and participating in cultural events. To Lebanon:
To maintain open communication with Lebanon and its people while continually working towards a free, independent, and sovereign Lebanon. To Members:
To provide a stimulating forum for a constructive exchange of ideas and active participation in order to achieve the above-stated goals. Lebanese and those of Lebanese origin, or relatives thereof, who subscribe to the WLCU goals and mission, are encouraged to join. By becoming a member of the WLCU, you will:
- Have the opportunity to play a direct role in preserving the Lebanese Identity.
- Help the organization grow and prosper and educate others about Lebanon's culture and heritage.
- Participate in organizing and providing philanthropic contributions to local and Lebanese charitable organizations, as well as scholarships to deserving students.
- Support Lebanonβs freedom, independence, and sovereignty.
