This is what we’re building toward. 🎶

The Tampa Bay African American Arts & Cultural Center is being created as a place where Black artists have a stage, our stories have a home, and our community can experience the incredible creativity and culture that exists right here in Tampa Bay.

Keep following along as we bring the vision for TBAAACC to life. You’re going to want to see what’s next. 🧡

October is National Book Month, and we’re celebrating some of the Black writers whose words have entertained us, challenged us, moved us, and helped tell stories that matter. 📚

We’re sharing a few favorites to get the conversation started, but now we want to hear yours.

What book by a Black author belongs on our bookshelf? Drop the title in the comments. 👇🏾

When you hear “arts and cultural center,” what do you picture?

Because what’s planned for the Tampa Bay African American Arts & Cultural Center might be bigger than you think.

Yes, there will be art, exhibits, performances, and opportunities to experience African American history and culture. But the Center is also being designed for everyday community life.

You could shop a local vendor market, attend a festival, watch a movie on the lawn, take an enrichment class, enjoy a comedy show, attend a wellness event or resource fair, and even celebrate a wedding, anniversary, or other special occasion.

All of that will be part of a multi-acre site featuring a 50,000-square-foot primary building, outdoor amphitheater, heritage walking trail, sculpture garden, and green spaces.

There are a LOT of possibilities planned for this space, and we’re excited for Tampa Bay to discover them. STAYED TUNED! 👀

Think back to the person who first opened that door for you.

Maybe it was a parent who always had music playing in the house. A teacher who introduced you to an artist or author you still love today. A grandparent who shared family stories and traditions. Or maybe it was a friend who took you to your first concert, play, museum, or gallery.

Our connection to the arts often starts with someone.

Who was that person for you, and what did they introduce you to?

This month, we celebrate the artists, storytellers, historians, creators, and communities who continue to shape Black arts and culture here in Tampa Bay and beyond.

And we look forward to creating a space where those stories can be shared, preserved, and celebrated for generations to come. 🧡

What will the future Tampa Bay African American Arts & Cultural Center make possible?

We imagine young people walking through its doors and discovering the artists, musicians, writers, stories, and history that have helped shape Black culture, including the rich history right here in Tampa Bay.

We imagine them learning something new, feeling a deeper connection to where they come from, and maybe even being inspired to create something of their own.

That is part of the vision for the future Center: preserving our history, celebrating our culture, and creating a place that inspires the generations still to come.

This is what we’re building toward. 🧡

There’s something special about being in a room filled with your community. 🧡

The laughter, the hugs, the conversations, the familiar faces, and the new connections being made. These moments are just as much a part of arts and culture as what happens on a stage or hangs on a gallery wall.

We're building a place where Tampa Bay can experience more of them.

More connection. More celebration. More community. And definitely more smiles like this one. 😊

Food is more than what’s on the plate. It’s history, creativity, tradition, and connection. 🍽

Across Tampa Bay, Black chefs, restaurant owners, caterers, bakers, and culinary entrepreneurs are telling stories through food, preserving traditions, creating new ones, and bringing people together along the way.

That’s art. That’s culture. And we want to celebrate the people behind it.

Who should we know? 👇🏾

Tag a Black chef, restaurant owner, caterer, baker, food truck owner, private chef, or culinary creative in the Tampa Bay area, and tell us what we need to try!

Let’s give Tampa Bay’s Black culinary community the recognition it deserves. 🌻

Our history gives us roots, our culture gives us connection, and both deserve a place to be preserved, celebrated, and shared.

The Tampa Bay African American Arts & Cultural Center is being built to create that place for our community - a home for the stories, creativity, and cultural contributions that have shaped Tampa Bay and continue to shape its future.

Because when we know where we come from, we can carry it forward. 🧡
