“I was privileged to get to coach Lilly in softball and she definitely impacted my life. She started softball later in life but she never let that hold her back. She worked hard to be a better player every single day. That work ethic is the reason she learned to pitch and make an impact on her team. Her determination to improve helped her to become an outstanding hitter. She challenged me and made me a better coach. Her positive attitude and love for life is a daily reminder to enjoy the little things, love big and always see the good in every situation.
I coached Libby for one season of volleyball. She also had a passion to get better everyday. She taught me the importance of loving life and those around you. She and my daughter Sarah loved each other but they were so much a like that they fussed just like sisters. They had fun though, no matter what they were up to. After Libby passed Sarah said she would always tell her friends she loved them when they left each other. I’ve heard her say “I love you” to her friends so many times and I think of Libby every time, still making an impression on others.
At the Spring Garden softball field we have a memory garden for Lilly and Libby, yellow lilies and red roses. I didn’t think anything would bloom this first year. I was wrong, we had lilies and roses from the time we started playing until our last summer camp in July. Once again, Lilly and Libby you are still making things beautiful, bringing joy to our eyes and wrapping love around those who will follow your love of softball.

Happy 20th birthday in heaven, Lillian Clair! 🪽🦋✨ We can only imagine what a heavenly birthday looks like but I am sure you are celebrating with the angels today. We miss your contagious laugh, your kind, giving heart, your bubbly personality and all the little things you did to make your family and friends feel special and loved. We love and miss you everyday. 💙💜

Lilly and Libby were always smiling and laughing and full of joy! They both reminded me so much of their mom! Always up for an adventure and something new or meeting new friends! Libby in her boots at PPS and Lilly on stage at PHS jumping rope while on a pogo stick with her team from Cave Spring, I think!
They never met a stranger or something that was out of their comfort zone! ALL IN ALL THE TIME! 💜💜💜

I was very blessed to be able to teach and coach Lilly. There are so many wonderful memories I could share and it’s so difficult to just pick one. So I will share two! Lilly’s senior year, the softball seniors and I made a habit of having a Wednesday walk before practice. (I was just soaking up every second I could with them!). They were talking about softball and future plans and I will always remember Lilly sharing her hopes of one day managing a nursing home and making it the best nursing home ever! Lilly was so kind and always thinking of others.
Lilly’s sophomore year, the team beat Cedar Bluff at regionals to qualify for state with a walk off hit. Lilly was on first and I don’t think I ever saw her run faster! I will always remember us watching and laughing at the video! She was the best teammate and embodied what it meant to play for the love of the game. I still can see her smile rounding third and heading for home!
Well, maybe three! It’s tradition for seniors to put numbers earned on the building. I was a little nervous watching Lilly climb the ladder- because if you know Lilly, you know she was a little clumsy- good thing she had two good supporters!
Lilly always appreciated the everyday little moments and the people around her. I loved her for that!
Forever grateful for Lilly and Libby!
