During Orientation & Mobility classes, you will fine tune your orientation and mobility skills to be more agile with navigating spaces and your environment. In addition, you will also learn white cane techniques, human guide instruction, and utilization of public transportation.

Orientation is an individual's ability to know where you are in a given space and mobility is navigating between two places safely, efficiently, and as independently as possible.

Recently several Lighthouse clients attended CareerSource Capital Region on Find A Job Friday along with Lighthouse Specialists Jeff Douglas and David Darm. The clients had the opportunity to meet with several employers at the job fair to talk about potential job opportunities. In fact, one client has interviewed for a position they are being considered for!

Lighthouse of The Big Bend was honored to attend the 2026 United Way of the Big Bend Annual Community Meeting at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center!

It's always wonderful to have the opportunity to connect and network with community partners who share a common goal: improving and strengthening the health, well-being, and learning opportunities of our community.

This month, Lighthouse of the Big Bend launched a new class for our clients in the Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) program titled Vocational Rehabilitation Foundations. The 4-week series covered a variety of topics to help clients learn about the essential skills and resources needed to help them succeed in the workforce, including:

• Communication and Interpersonal Skills
• Self-Advocacy
• The Americans with Disabilities Act
• Social Security Disability Work Incentives
• Transportation Services
• Resume Writing, Interviewing, and Attending Job Fairs

LBB invited guest speakers to present on these topics and provided a forum for clients to share their personal experiences in the job market. Clients were also encouraged to provide feedback on what they gained from the series and how we can improve it in the future. The next VR Foundations class will be in October.
