70 years ago today, Florida A&M alumna and trailblazing tennis icon made history by winning the French Open at Roland Garros. The following year, she became the first Black athlete to win Wimbledon, continuing a legendary run that reshaped the sport forever.

Gibson finished her remarkable career with 56 titles, including French Open (1956), Wimbledon (1957, 1958), and U.S. Open championships (1957, 1958), along with multiple Grand Slam doubles and mixed doubles titles from 1956–1958. A pioneer. A champion. A history maker. 🎾🏆
