Hurricane Isaias: Post-Storm Update

This update is for FAMU’s main Tallahassee campus. The severe weather threat from Hurricane Isaias has passed the Tallahassee area. Individuals should remain cautious, stay weather-aware, and avoid storm debris, flood-prone areas, and downed power lines.

For our residential students, dining services have resumed normal operations this morning. Please report any new or previously unidentified storm-related hazards on campus to FAMU PD at 850-599-3256.

In the aftermath, we advise everyone to follow guidance from local authorities about conditions in your area and continue monitoring FAMU ALERT and other official university communication channels for additional storm-related updates.

STAY INSIDE AND CONTINUE TO SHELTER IN PLACE. Severe weather can extend well beyond the center of the storm and may continue to impact our area through at least Saturday
If caught outside, take shelter immediately in a sturdy, enclosed building. Heavy rainfall, strong wind gusts, and the potential for tornadoes remain in effect for our area.

Due to Hurricane Isaias, Florida A&M University is adjusting operations on Friday, Oct. 9.
Main Campus (Tallahassee) – Friday, Oct. 9
Morning classes will be held remotely.
Early dismissal begins at noon. Afternoon, only essential employees will remain on duty, as directed by their supervisors.
Afternoon classes are canceled.
FAMU Developmental Research School will close at 1:35pm
All golf carts must be moved to the parking garage by noon.
The Café and the Hub will be open for residents and meal plan holders from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday through Sunday.
Educational Research Center for Child Development (ERCCD) will be closed.
Other Campuses – Friday, Oct. 9
Peaden Campus in Crestview: Closed.
Tampa/Brooksville: Closed
Miami-Davie and Jacksonville campuses: Normal operations.
FAMU expects to resume classes and normal business operations on Monday, Oct. 12.
Faculty and staff who live in affected areas should contact their supervisors about work arrangements.

FAMU and City of Tallahassee Utilities report that power has been restored to Main Campus and surrounding areas. Evening classes on the main campus will remain canceled, and the campus will return to normal operations on Thursday, September 17th.

FAMU and City of Tallahassee Utilities have reported a power outage affecting the FAMU Main Campus and surrounding areas. City of Tallahassee Utilities crews are assessing the outage and working toward restoration.
