Project Manager, Lou, thought today was the perfect day to begin the never-ending task of repairing fences, with the help of his U.T. Friends, Layla and Daryl.

It was heartwarming to watch so many of the Moos approach their new friend Daryl, and introduce themselves in their own unique ways.

Cows Come Home Sanctuary has been educating others about the individuality, intelligence and wide range of emotions of our bovine friends for nine years now, but I find I am the one who is still caught off guard by their ability to do that all by themselves if we’ll only let them.

Opening Day of the Pasture is usually a huge surprise for the cows. We casually walk to the back of the pasture and quietly open the gate without getting busted. Within a minute or two, a couple nosy moos will catch on and alert the herd… and that’s when the happy stampede begins.
As a sanctuary who strives to educate the public about the intelligence and emotions of cows…we, ourselves, actually failed to consider that we could fool them once… or maybe twice, but three times was pushing it.
They were looking for signs. They checked their calendars. Cars rolling up the driveway on a nice spring day and a small crowd gathering on the lawn were obvious clues.
The element of surprise is officially a thing of the past.

Good Mooooorning! 🌞🐂
Is Spring REALLY here… or do we still have a Tennessee winter ( Blackberry Winter in May) or two (Whippoorwill Winter in late May) before it’s over and mean it??

Yikes!!!
River and Chance are like two little brothers who spontaneously break into a wrestling match every time guests arrive. 😂

They apparently have horn-wrestling down to an art form, because I’ve never seen a scratch, poke or cut!

Morning from the Moos!
It’s been nearly 9 years since a 50-year old, multi-generational farm became their sanctuary… and it never stops being amazing to watch Moms, Dads and Grandmas having meals with their grown kids. ❤️

We hope you are surrounded by everyone who makes your heart go Pitter💗Patter ( and MOOooooooo!) 🐂

Winter Storm 2026 #1 thankfully didn’t live up to the hype here. Unfortunately, Round 2 more than made up for it 🥶

8+” of snow, temps well below freezing, several frozen water tanks, rolling out water hoses, then rolling them up again ( we REALLY need to remedy this before next winter ), feeding 5-6 huge round bales of hay and making certain every moo is happy and healthy.

And the cows think it’s no big deal. 😂🥶🐂

We did NOT get the predicted ice storm last night and thanks to temps above freezing this morning, what little ice we did get melted away by 8:30.

Then it began raining. And raining. And RAINING. HARD.
We didn’t get pix of the moos today because it was pouring while Rick was feeding, but I did find this photo of Lou that pretty much sums up how we all feel about this weather. No, it wasn’t taken in the winter or even this past year, but the sentiment is the same. And he hasn’t even seen the forecast for the next six or seven days.
Rick spent last week working on the smaller barn so we could open it up to the large herd just before the storm was expected to arrive. Guess what? We had very few takers😂. A few of them wandered in, looked around.. and left. But it’s there should they choose to use it.

Please keep the Moos in your thoughts. They really don’t mind the cold, but single digits??? That’s beyond cold. 🐂😔🙏🏼
