Last night was Ryan’s first opportunity to address his home local since the vote last week. He got a standing ovation. Thank you, Ryan, for everything you’ve done for Local 23 and for the entire ILWU. We’re gonna miss you. ✊

Sisters, brothers, and fellow workers, good afternoon. We’re here in San Francisco where we just got the results and I want to be the first to tell you — we did it!

This campaign has truly been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had as a member of this union: meeting so many rank and filers, talking through the issues with you, visiting your union halls, walking picket lines together, all of it.

So thank you, all of you, for the amazing support you’ve given us the last few months. The certified results making it official will still take a few days, but I look forward to being sworn in soon and serving the entire ILWU as your next Mainland Vice President.

With ballots due this Friday and things wrapping up, I just want to say how much of an honor it was visiting so many of your union halls, attending local conventions, walking picket lines, meeting new members and, of course, catching up with old friends.
