Once a week, Madeline serves at the Assumption Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen, an organization that provides food to households in need and offers a free meal to anyone who comes to the door. Here’s a glimpse of Madeline’s time there:

“On Thursdays, I got to serve at Assumption’s Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen. Here I am getting to help serve at the dinner soup window! The dinner window is unique since it gives us volunteers more of an opportunity to speak with the people that visit the window! It is also how I get to end my day at the food pantry, on a good note seeing the faces we are serving. Another plus to the food pantry is getting to work alongside the friars! Talking and chatting with the two friars that help run the food pantry are some of my favorite parts of my week! They are truly awesome people!!”

Charism Pilgrimage Day 8 (Post Two)

On our last day in Italy, we did much more than meet Friar Carlos Alberto Trovarelli, OFM Conv., the 120th successor of Saint Francis of Assisi and the worldwide leader of the Conventual Franciscan Friars (scroll down our profile to our May 30 post for the point-five selfie taken by Friar Carlos himself).

Location 1: St. Peter’s Basilica (📸 1-4)

We started in Vatican City with a tour of St. Peter’s Basilica, followed by time for the volunteers to explore St. Peter’s on their own and to spend time in prayer.

Location 2: Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran (📸 5-6)

We then visited St. John Lateran, the Cathedral of Rome and the seat of the Pope. Saint Francis visited here in 1209 to seek approval for his new way of life from Pope Innoccent III.

Location 3: Santi Apostoli (📸 7-14)

The last place was Santi Apostoli, a church dedicated to the Twelve Apostles and cared for by the Conventual Franciscans.

Not only did we get to meet with Friar Carlos, we also met two other Friars. First, we were greeted by Friar Mark Folger, OFM Conv., who is part of the Franciscan Friars Conventual of St. Joseph of Cupertino. Friar Mark also gave us a tour of Santi Apostoli. We also met Friar David Francis Blowley, OFM Conv., who is part of the Franciscan Friars Conventual of the Our Lady of the Angels Province. Friar David is the Assistant General for the Conventual Franciscan Federation.

To end our time at Santi Apostoli we celebrated Mass together for “The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.”

A big thank you to the local friars at St.
Francis Friary here in Syracuse for hosting FrancisCorps 27 for Community Night a couple weeks ago! It was an evening of dinner, prayer, and scattergories. 😀

We are truly grateful for their unwavering support and prayers they provide the volunteers year after year.

📍 Toronto & Niagara Falls, Canada 🇨🇦

On this , we’re throwing it back to a month ago when FC 27 headed to Canada for a weekend adventure!

They explored Toronto, made a spontaneous decision to catch a Toronto Blue Jays game ⚾️, and on their way back to New York, made a stop at the breathtaking Niagara Falls. 🌊

A big thank you to the Franciscan Friars Conventual of St. Bonaventure Friary in Toronto for hosting FrancisCorps 27 during their time in Canada!

Charism Pilgrimage Day 5 (Post Two)

After celebrating Mass together at the Basilica of Saint Clare (scroll down our profile to our May 27 post for photos), we headed to the Eremo delle Carceri di San Francesco. This is where Saint Francis often retreated with his companions when he needed to step away from preaching and ministry. Surrounded by forest and silence, it became a place where he could pray, reflect, and deepen his relationship with God.

Just like Saint Francis and his companions once did, Amanda, Karlie, and Madeline had the opportunity to do the same: to pray, reflect, and deepen their own relationship with God in this sacred place of peace and contemplation.

While at the hermitage, we reflected on how both Jesus and Saint Francis withdrew to quiet places for prayer and renewal. Through moments of silence and solitude, we were reminded that rest is not a sign of weakness but an essential part of our faith, renewing us for the work God calls us to do and helping us find holiness in our daily lives.

A typical day of a FrancisCorps volunteer will always include four key things: service, community, prayer and a Franciscan sense of fun! ❤️🧡

Join Amanda as she shares what a day looks like for her as a FrancisCorps volunteer. A big part of Amanda’s day is spent at the Brady Faith Center. Its primary goal is to welcome people into their ministries and programs, which provide bridges and places of connection for people in the inner city and surrounding areas.

Later in the evening is Community Night, which happens every week where a member of the extended FrancisCorps community (on this day, Jenny Rose, FC Associate Director) spends time with the community through a shared meal, prayer, and activity. For this Community Night, ir was a fun food truck event.

How has your faith grown through the people you serve and those you serve alongside?

“Seeing injustice more directly than I ever have, has both challenged and strengthened my faith. It is hard to see those that I serve living in so much pain and hurt by the hands of others. However, their resilience on top of their profound love for their children reminds me of the Father’s love for us, His own children. My faith has grown through watching these women take back hope despite having every reason not to. I’ve also been really encouraged by the people I serve alongside at Joseph’s House. They truly care and do everything they possible can to help and love those who have been cast out, down to even the smallest of things. Although at times it’s hard to see what God’s plan is, or why He allows such pain, but I trust that He is there and working amidst the suffering.” - Karlie
