Deka Eysaman is a longtime community activist, known for and beyond her work with the New York Civil Liberties Union and the Urban Jobs Task Force. Now, she's leading the South Side Community Growth Foundation as Executive Director. For years, Deka's been talking about the importance of mobilizing for change in support of our communities.

Sometimes grocery store produce is on the brink of going bad. Or a lead crisis is affecting educational outcomes at your local school. Or the supermarket in your neighborhood closed and the bus doesn't quite get you to the next one.

All of these issues need attention and action. But how do you mobilize people to care? At our last Civic Engagement workshop, guests Marie Morelli and Maximillian Eyle shared about the role media plays in getting attention on an issue, and participants worked together to create mad-lib style op-eds that helped them think through the messaging of the issues they were advocating for.

We had a blast and are excited to re-vamp the series next year.
