The 4-H Jump Off S.T.E.A.A.M is a youth development program that promotes and enriches the quality of life of our youth, our children and the communities we serve by providing an inspirational gathering place where STEM activities, art, agriculture and cultural activities illuminate, inspire and edutain (educate + entertain). To the youth of Sylvester and surrounding counties this 4-H program is

designed specifically for your needs. We want to hear from you and your ideas for developing a youth led program that you will be proud to call your own.

Alpha Pregnancy Center is a licensed medical clinic providing free pregnancy related services and resources to help patients along their pregnancy journey. Join Worth County Director, Carey Willis, as she shares more about the services and resources offered by the pregnancy center.

Did you know that Worth County has a higher percentage of preterm births (17.6%) as compared to the Georgia state value (11.4%) and U.S. value (10.0%). Preterm births are risky for both the child and the mother. But we have resources right here in Worth County that can help families. The Alpha Pregnancy Center has been operating in southwest GA since 1991. THE PUBLIC IS INVITED! A heart healthy breakfast is served!

Lemon balm is a calming herb, and helps everything from anxiety to indigestion. It’s in the mint family and has been used for centuries to treat pain and inflammation and as a memory stimulant. Join Eda and the Sankofa team as we explore this wonderful aromatic herb, its health benefits and its side effects. In this workshop we will sample lemon balm tea and we will make a dish using lemon balm.

For 8 WEEKS starting August 5th to September 23rd the Village Community Garden will host the sessions with topics geared towards making healthy food choices, stretching food budgets and portion control without starving and more… Also, during each session, we will COOK AND SHARE A DELICIOUS AND NUTRITIOUS MEAL, learn a PHYSICAL ACTIVITY that will not stress our bodies and receive a GIFT AFTER EACH SESSION. Upon completing the program you will receive a gift from the Village and from our GA Dept of Public Health and SNAP-Ed partners.

What does it take to be self-sufficient for a number of days. When it comes to self-sufficiency skills, learning the art of being prepared through planning and gathering the right supplies is crucial. This workshop is about staying aware and being prepared. Laura is a graduate of Colquitt County High School and Valdosta State University. She has a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Mathematics. She has been the Worth County Environmental Health County Manager for over 17 years. She is a Registered Environmental Health Specialist which is a national credential. Laura has had much training and experience in the area of Emergency Preparedness during her tenure. She has participated first hand in Environmental Health response to natural disasters including floods, tornados, and hurricanes. She has presented at the local and state level regarding the mass feeding site held in Worth County in response to the January 2017 tornados. She was accepted to present on the mass feeding site at the National Environmental Health Convention in New York in 2020 which was unfortunately canceled due to COVID19. Laura has a passion for emergency preparedness and encouraging others to be self-sufficient during times of disaster

Presenter: Jeanette Brush, Intensive Care Nurse will lead a discussion on how the decrease in bone strength can increase the risk of fractures (broken bones). Attain the knowledge and practical skills with safe exercises to help reduce the risk of fractures for people with osteoporosis. Learn how to become BONE FIT! Also learn about Food for Healthy Bones.

Meet Jeanette Brush, who began he career as an Intensive Care Nurse. She received her Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree from Marian University in Indianapolis, Indiana. For 17 years she has provided care to patients ranging from age 18 years and above. Jeannette continues to improve her education and has earned a Certificate of Training in Advanced Nursing, specializing in Critical Care. Her advanced training provides her with a special skill set to care for critical care patients with life-threatening conditions and diseases.
