Official Statement - Boys & Girls Clubs of Senegal (BGCSN)

Boys & Girls Clubs of Senegal (BGCSN) expresses deep concern over the newly enacted law criminalizing consensual same‑sex relations and restricting mental‑health support for LGBTQ+ individuals in Senegal. The law’s broad language risks criminalizing speech, advocacy, and public discussion, while grouping LGBTQ+ identities with serious crimes undermines human dignity.

We are also troubled by reports of leaked medical records, shared investigative files, and the targeting of individuals based on appearance or association. These practices raise serious concerns about privacy, due process, and the protection of vulnerable people.

As an organization dedicated to youth development and community well‑being, BGCSN calls for respect for constitutional rights, due process, and the safeguarding of families.

Official Statement on the Recently Adopted Law Targeting Same‑Sex Individuals in Senegal

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Senegal expresses its profound concern and sorrow regarding the recently adopted law targeting same‑sex individuals and those who support them — including organizations like ours that provide mental‑health care, counseling, and crisis support to all youth without discrimination.

These are really heartbreaking times for our nation.

Senegal has no national hotline, no crisis center, and no public institution where victims of abuse, coercion, or trauma can safely seek help. For years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Senegal has been the only organization opening its doors to every young person — including LGBTQ youth — who arrives carrying fear, shame, or the weight of unspoken trauma.

We do not ask about identity. We do not judge. We listen. We protect. We provide dignity, compassion, and mental‑health support to those who have nowhere else to turn.

This new law has created confusion, fear, and uncertainty among the very youth who depend on us for survival. It has also raised questions about whether humanitarian organizations offering counseling, suicide‑prevention support, or crisis intervention could be criminalized simply for doing their work.

We urge the Government of Senegal to clarify the scope and intent of this law, so that it cannot be misinterpreted or applied in ways that endanger vulnerable youth, silence victims, or punish those who provide essential mental‑health services.

Our commitment remains unchanged.
We will continue to advocate for the dignity, safety, and psychological well‑being of every young person in Senegal and around the world. We will continue to open our doors to those who are hurting. We will continue to stand for humanity, compassion, and the fundamental right of every child to be heard and protected.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Senegal believes in a Senegal where no young person is left alone in their suffering — and we will not abandon that mission.

Official Statement on the Austin Mass Shooting:

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Senegal (BGCSN) is deeply saddened by the tragic mass shooting that occurred in Austin, Texas. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this horrific act of violence.

BGCSN is closely following information released by law‑enforcement authorities and other official channels. We are aware that there have been conflicting reports regarding the identity of the suspect, and we recognize that investigations are still ongoing. In light of this, we will not comment on or repeat any specific names or personal details until they have been clearly and conclusively confirmed by the competent authorities.

As an organization dedicated to the well‑being of youth and communities, we are particularly mindful of how premature or inaccurate information can harm individuals, families, and entire communities, including the Senegalese diaspora. We therefore urge the public and the media to rely on verified law‑enforcement updates and to avoid sharing unconfirmed claims.

Regardless of the final investigative findings, this tragedy is a painful reminder of the importance of mental‑health awareness, early intervention, and strong community support systems. BGCSN remains committed to promoting education, resilience, and mental‑health advocacy for young people and families in Senegal and across the diaspora.

Official Statement on LGBTQ+‑Related Arrests in Senegal:

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Senegal expresses its deep concern regarding the recent arrests of C.A.T. Diallo (Pape Cheikh Diallo), D. Dramé (Djiby Dramé), and ten other individuals, all reportedly detained under allegations related to their sexual orientation.

As an organization dedicated to youth development, mental health, and the protection of human dignity, we call on the authorities to handle this situation with the utmost care, transparency, and respect for fundamental human rights. No individual should face imprisonment or public humiliation based solely on allegations about their private life or identity.

The right to dignity, privacy, and personal freedom is protected under Senegal’s constitutional principles and international human rights commitments. When individuals are exposed to stigma, public hostility, or degrading treatment, the psychological consequences can be severe. No one should be placed in conditions that could lead to trauma, despair, or self‑harm.

Even if the accusations were true, the mere perception of someone’s sexual orientation should never justify detention or the destruction of a person’s career, reputation, or mental well‑being. Such actions undermine the rule of law and erode the values of justice, humanity, and social cohesion that Senegal has long upheld.

We are also concerned by the broader pattern in which LGBTQ individuals are accused of extreme or implausible acts without credible evidence. These narratives contribute to fear, stigma, and mental distress, and they require careful, impartial investigation rather than sensationalism or prejudice.

We respectfully urge the Senegalese authorities to:

Ensure that any statements or confessions are obtained without duress

Clarify the legal basis for all arrests

Protect the dignity, safety, and mental well‑being of the individuals concerned

Uphold the constitutional rights of all citizens, regardless of sexual orientation

Senegal’s strength has always come from its commitment to justice, humanity, and respect for the inherent dignity of every person. Protecting the mental health and fundamental rights of all citizens, including those who are marginalized or misunderstood, is essential to preserving that legacy.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Senegal will continue to monitor this situation closely and advocate for fairness, transparency, and the protection of human dignity.

We are really concerned by recent reports involving Renee Good, a Colorado Springs resident and LGBTQ+ community member, who was seriously injured during an encounter with federal agents.

As an organization rooted in both Senegal and the United States, we affirm that every person, regardless of identity, deserves dignity, safety, and the full protection of their rights.

We call for a transparent, independent investigation into the circumstances of this incident.
We also reaffirm our commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion, youth empowerment, and civic accountability, in Senegal, in the U.S., and across our global community. Justice and dignity are foundational.

🇸🇳 Statement on the Tragic Death of Cheikh Touré

We are heartbroken by the loss of Cheikh Touré, a gifted 18-year-old goalkeeper from Senegal, who was kidnapped and murdered in Ghana after falling victim to a fraudulent football trial scheme.

Cheikh was more than a rising athlete—he was a dreamer, a fighter, and a symbol of Senegal’s youth potential. His death is not just a tragedy; it is a wake-up call.

We demand accountability. We demand safeguards. We demand justice.

To every academy, recruiter, and parent: verify. Protect. Speak out.
To every young dreamer: your talent should never be exploited.
To every policymaker: this must never happen again.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Senegal stands with Cheikh’s family and calls for regional action to dismantle trafficking networks that prey on youth ambition.

His name will not be forgotten. His story will not be erased.
