Another great poster. With Iowa leading the way with the main ingredient (Nitrates) for Blue/Green Algae, increased temps and rain fall season coming to an end. As handlers we have to do our due diligence and keep an eye out for this nasty toxin. Your dog’s survival rate if ingested is pretty low and is a miserable death for your dog. Best Retrievers

A DOG ONLY GETS ONE FIRST INTRODUCTION TO GUNFIRE 🔫🐾

One of the biggest mistakes people make is assuming every dog will naturally accept gunfire.

Some dogs handle it with ease. Others need a slower, more thoughtful introduction.

The challenge is that you don’t know which dog you have until you start the process.

That’s why we always recommend starting conservatively and building confidence first.

Whether a dog is motivated by retrieves, food, praise, or another reward, we want the sound to become part of a positive experience. We introduce gunfire from a distance and carefully watch the dog’s reaction before progressing.

Never shoot right next to a puppy or young dog until you know they are confident around gunfire.

Remember, dogs learn in pictures, not videos. What the dog is thinking and experiencing at the moment the sound occurs matters.

If you’re planning to send your dog to Best Retrievers, we recommend that you do not introduce gunfire yourself. A dog only gets one first introduction to gunfire, and we’d rather build that foundation through a structured progression designed specifically for your dog.

Take your time.

Build confidence.

Set them up for success.
