We are blessed with several sponsors this year! First and foremost is Texas Section SRM. They have generously supported this program from the very beginning, when Dan Caudle and Jenny Pluhar had an idea and a plan and made it work! https://texassrm.org/

This year's workshop is getting close! We will see our participants June 8 for a week of ranch activities! Earlier this year, the TSSRM Board of Directors voted on a name change for YRW2. We will be known going forward as Students of Stewardship! We'll be sharing plans and sponsors over the next couple of weeks.

For our alumni who are in college now. Check out this opportunity! I heard great things about last year’s event. Let Katy know if you need a letter of recommendation!

The annual West Texas Students in Conservation Retreat is coming up (July 29 – August 2) and will be at the Davis Mountains Preserve. It is a free event with meals and tents provided, but it is limited to 15 spots, so applications and letters of recommendation are due by May 31, 2026.

We are excited to have Jacey Sealy from Fort McCavett join us at YRW2 this summer! Menard County SWCD sends great people to YRW and YRW2!

We’re proud to announce that Garrison Johnson and Jacey Sealy represented Texas at the 2026 International High School Youth Forum in Monterey, California (Feb 8–12). These students earned their spots through outstanding performance at YRW 2025, then worked hard to write and present research papers in the 6–8 minute contest. The students took an ecological tour at Santa Lucia Preserve, attended undergraduate contests and the Ranchers Forum, explored the meeting trade show and networked with rangeland professionals, participated in the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists discussion, and gained real-world experience presenting research and answering tough questions.
Huge congratulations to Garrison and Jacey for their dedication, poise, and the leadership they showed on the national stage.

Are you a student aged 14–18 who wants hands-on range science experience next summer?
Interested in a Junior Director role to build leadership and mentoring skills?
Want a chance to become next year’s representative in Wichita , KS?
YRW 2026 will be June 21–26. Cost is $500. Students ages 14–18 are eligible to apply. We’re also accepting applications for Junior Directors — students who want to guide their peers, assist camp leadership, and build leadership experience. The application can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/yrw2026 Spots fill quickly — start preparing your materials now.
