Happy Birthday in Heaven

For thirty years, I have loved you.
From the moment you were born, my life was forever changed.
You gave me the greatest gift—the joy of being your mom.
I was so happy, and yet so afraid I might not get it right.

But you taught me more about love than I ever could have taught you.
I know you loved me, and I know you knew you were loved by me.
That bond can never be broken.

Today, on your birthday, I celebrate you.
I remember your smile, your laughter, your light.
And though my heart aches with missing you,
I carry you with me in everything I do.

I hold onto the hope that one day
we will see each other again.

I know about addiction far too well for it has impacted my life and that of my family . My biggest pet peeve is when people say "you had the perfect life, how could you mess it up like this over alcohol or drugs" or "if you want help you should just ask" or "We've already been down this road before and that it didn't work last time..." addiction literally consumes your soul and it's all you can think about! No one wakes up one day and says I want to be alcoholic, he**in, co***ne, or m**h addict for the rest of my life... So today more than ever, I pray for the healing of addiction for all that are still struggling. There's a personal reason for asking everyone to put this message on their status for at least 1 hour. I know who'll do it! Think of someone you love who has had an addiction or who is trying to fight this evil whether winning or losing. I hope to see continuous efforts towards sobriety & this status on all of my friends walls. Don't share, but copy and paste.

Join recovery advocates on Saturday, October 5th from 4:00pm - 8:00pm in Oak Ridge, Tennessee for an empowering event where we unite with the statewide recovery community and local partners, and a special musical performance by American Idol Winner, Noah Thompson!

The event kicks off with an advocacy panel and legislative review (sponsored and led by TAADAS and the Metro Drug Coalition), highlighting crucial legislation and policies related to addiction recovery and harm reduction.

Event Highlights:
◾Introduction by Courtney Gary-Allen from the Mobilize Recovery Team
◾Exploration of harm reduction and faith-based initiatives
◾Inspirational local speakers and advocates
◾Free food, music, and resource tables throughout the event

“I worked here several years back, but I had to leave and straighten some things out. Thistle Farms welcomed me back, and I started working as a barista. Then Tammy started to train me with the tea parties. The tea parties are my real passion.

I like being able to tell them what we do here and sharing my own journey. I’m almost 18 months clean and sober now, and I never thought I’d have the life I have today.

Being able to have this opportunity and interact with people, sharing a part of myself, is important. I want them to know that when they come here, they’re not just buying food or products—they’re really investing in someone. People think it’s just a nice place to eat, but there’s so much more to it.

It’s a pleasure to be part of that. Children come for the teas for their birthdays, and some of them know me by name. It feels good to know they remember me and that I made a positive memory because, for so long, I made so many negative ones. Making a positive impact is a big part of my life today.”
