Kings Militia Family
Thanks to the King's gracious providence, and your generosity and helping hands, we were able to meet many people in their struggle, and bring a little holiday cheer once again. This year was not the overwhelming distribution of backpacks we've experienced in the city of Houston in years past, but we stayed a little more local, hitting Alvin, Angelton, Clute, Lake Jackson, Free Port, and West Columbia.
It's a very moving experience when there are great waves of people who are in need, who come forward to receive bags and pies. But, when the numbers are fewer and we are given the opportunity to sit down and get to know those we are serving, its a little more rewarding. Getting to know people, hear their stories, and spend a little time with them to encourage them, makes what we do far more fulfilling.
We wanted to take a moment to vision cast with those of you who may not know what we are looking to do in the near future. We have definitely grown since we began 13 years ago, but, 2019' is when we officially became a 501 C3. We recognized there were many doors we could not access for greater resource opportunities unless we became licensed.
That said, there still remains the issue of a team. There is no way we could do what we do without the love and commitment of everyone who donates and lends a helping hand to further the cause of helping our homeless. Thank you, you know who you are, and we are greatful for all you do.
Nevertheless, we are still on the lookout for people who can give of their time and energy to advance this cause. We need people who will be committed to see it through. From the gathering of donations and assembling of the backpacks, to the pie making and distribution teams. We are in need of more people who will be devoted to see the vision through.
Compassion is the single most important virtue we are looking for in our volunteers. 1 Cor.13:2-3 says, "if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing."
No matter what you bring to the table, your time and effort are going to be more than appreciated. We would like to see people who may have experience with street evangelism. As time progresses and we develop a greater team of volunteers, courses on "Street Evangelism" will be made available to all who are interested. We want people to know and experience the heart of Jesus through our team.
Over the course of the next few years, we are looking to procure a pull behind trailer, that will be equipped with showers, changing area, barber station, and donated clothes. That is a short-term goal. There has been a lot of talk about a long-term goal of programming. Finding land to provide temporary housing to assist people in getting off the streets, and helping them get established.
We realize this would be a great endeavor. We've talked to licensed chemical-dependency counselors who would need to be apart of the program, since the reality of addiction is so prevalent in our homeless population. The classes and services we would provide would have to be a lot, since we would be progressively moving the residents in the direction of full transition coming off the streets to eventually obtaining their own housing, transportation, and job, to all who are capable.
This is again "long-term" vision casting for the programming, but we wanted to share with you, our Kings Militia family, the hope we have for the future of this organization, if it be the Lord's will. Please contact us if your interested in joining our service teams. Remember we are looking for people who can truly commit their time and energy. We thank you for all you do, and please keep us in your prayers.
With Love,
The King's Militia
