Training is June 4. We’ve counted bats 🦇 roosting in our barn for a few years. Enlist your kids and give it a go!

Got bats? Help us count them! Landowners, homeowners, and other volunteers can help keep track of New Hampshire’s bats by conducting “emergence counts” at bat roosts throughout the state.

Thinking about No-Mow May? Here’s what you should know.

Letting the lawn grow in May can offer short-term support for bees and other pollinators, but the bigger benefit comes from how we manage our landscapes all season long. 🐝🦋

A few simple ways to create better habitat beyond May:

Mow less often: Consider mowing every other week.

Leave a small section of your yard unmown all season.

Eliminate chemicals.

Reduce the lights: Outdoor lights impact bird migration and prevent fireflies from seeing each other’s flashes.

Clean up less: Fewer clean-ups provide food and shelter for all kinds of creatures.

Good stewardship provides much-needed habitat for pollinators, insects, birds, amphibians and other animals, while rewarding us with more biodiversity in our own yards.

It’s turtle crossing time! Please stop safely and help turtles cross the road when you can. They are heading upland to a sandy spot to lay eggs - then back again.
🐢 ALWAYS carry them in the direction they were going.
🐢 The diagram shows how to move a snapper - it works! With a heavy one, you might have to drag, or get a car mat for a carpet ride.
🐢 Never bring a wandering turtle home to your own pond - odds are it will be killed trying to get back to its home.
🐢 NEVER carry a turtle by its tail - you can injure it’s spine.
🐢 Found an injured turtle? Even bad shell injuries can heal with proper care. Call or text NH Turtle Rescue - especially with wood turtles. 603 417-4944.
