Mark 3: Green Bell “3” off Ships and Barges Ledge; leave the buoy, not the ledge, to port.
Finish Line: Same as the starting line, between red nun ”2” off Crow Island and the blue and white mooring buoy to port. The committee boat will be at the port end of the line and is not part of the finish line.
**In the event of light air (less than 7 mph), the course will be shortened by eliminating Mark 3: Green Bell “3” off Ships and Barges Ledge and substituting a rounding Casco Passage RW “CP” Bell to port, and all boats will be notified at the start or at Mark 1.
The committee boat will be on station by 12:30 and will not have radio contact. We ask all boats to check in with the committee boat between 12:30 and 12:45.
Starting /Sequence
12:50 First Warning: A horn and a white flag. The flag will be lowered 30 seconds before the preparatory signal. 12:55 Preparatory signal: A horn and a blue flag which will be lowered 30 seconds before the start.
1:00 Start: A horn and a red flag.
Starting Rules:
Boats may cross the start line freely in any direction before the blue preparatory flag is lowered (30 seconds before the red start flag) to test the wind.
In order to correctly start the race, a boat needs to be on the pre-start side of the line by 30 seconds before start time (signaled by the lowering of the blue preparatory flag).
If a boat is not on the pre-start side of the line by 30 seconds before start it will be considered an early start and that boat must sail outside the extension of the starting line (around the pin end or the committee boat) before restarting. Such boats have no right-of-way and must keep clear of all other boats that are starting correctly. No additional time penalty is assessed in this case. If a boat has an early start and does not return to the correct side of the line it will be DQ.
Any boat that crosses the starting line within 30 seconds before start (between the blue flag lowered and red flag raised) will be assessed a 3-minute penalty.
Sail Racing Rules
The official rules of sail racing are extremely complex. Ours are pretty simple.
1. Be safe on the water.
2. No contact between any boats, we have a “no-touch” rule. If there is any contact between two or more boats, all affected boats will be disqualified. All skippers of the boats in question should report the contact to the committee boat.
3. Have fun.
