We are deeply grateful to the American Red Cross for making this work possible in the Swannanoa Valley.

Because of this support, the market is thriving, the team is growing, and programs are beginning to take shape inside the Hub.

The space is coming alive with activity as financial literacy workshops, wellness programs, and community partnerships begin to take shape and serve families across the Swannanoa Valley.

Thank you to the American Red Cross for believing in this work and investing in the people and future of this community.

Some people show up and quietly change everything. 🌿✨

Ivy has been one of those people. From day one, Ivy has been monumental to the launch and growth of our market, helping behind the scenes with everything from social media and creative projects to day-of market support and Hub happenings. The heart, hard work, and dedication brought into this space helped build something truly special here in Swannanoa.

This past weekend, Ivy graduated from Warren Wilson College and we just want to say thank you for everything given to this market and this community. You are going to be missed more than you know.

We are so proud of you, Ivy, and can’t wait to see where this next chapter takes you. 💛

Later that evening, the Buncombe County Planning staff will join the Swannanoa Grassroots Alliance meeting to gather input for the Swannanoa Small Area & Resilience Plan.

And of course, it’s market season, and our Swannanoa Market will be in full swing on Saturday! 🎉

These are just a few highlights. Swipe through to see what else is happening this week.

From gatherings to market days, there’s always something going on at the Hub.

Come by, say hey, and stay a while. We’d love to see you.

Hey neighbors, as hurricane season approaches again, we want to share this gently and with care.

We all just came through a very difficult storm, and many of us are still carrying what that experience felt like. There is no rush in this, and no pressure to do everything at once.

One small step that can help bring a little peace of mind is starting an emergency kit when and if you’re ready. It doesn’t have to be built in a day. You can simply add a few items over time during regular trips to the store.

If it feels helpful, a basic kit might include things like a few days of food and water, flashlights, batteries, medications, and other simple items that help you feel a bit more steady if services are disrupted.

You can find more guidance here when you’re ready:
buncombeready.org

You can also sign up for local alerts by texting BCREADY to 67283.

Most importantly, take care of yourself and your people. We’re still in this together, and we’ll keep showing up for one another, one step at a time.

The 2026 hurricane season is just around the corner. On day two of Hurricane Preparedness Week, we encourage you to build a kit.

Building a kit does not have to be time-consuming. Pick up one or two items when you go to the store.
Consider what you would do if basic services like water, power, gas, and phones were not working for several days or more. Many of us experienced this during Helene.

Your kit should include:
• At least 3 days’ supply of food and water
• Battery-powered radio or NOAA Weather Radio
• Battery-powered flashlights
• Batteries
• First aid kit
• Personal hygiene supplies, baby supplies, sturdy shoes, waterproof gloves
• Medications
• Whistle to signal for help
• Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
• Local maps
• Cash

N.C. residents who are deaf or hard of hearing can receive a free specialized Weather Alert Radio with visual strobe lights and bed shakers. For more information, contact the Asheville center at [email protected], via voice at 828-365-7800, and video phone at 828-333-5830.

Sign up to receive emergency and general alerts from Buncombe County by texting “BCREADY” to 67283.

Hey neighbors, this is one of those moments where your voice really matters.

The Swannanoa Small Area & Resilience Plan is taking shape, and there’s an open community poll through May 18. This is a chance to share your thoughts on things like sidewalks, bike routes, and how we move around and grow together as a community.

If you’ve got a few minutes, we’d love for you to take the poll and make your voice heard:
https://engage.buncombecounty.org/j12127?lang=en

Prefer to do it in person? There are a number of drop-in times around Swannanoa where you can stop by, connect with a planner, and fill it out together. The Buncombe County Planning staff will be at the SGA meeting this Wednesday at the Hub and again on May 16 at the Swannanoa Market.

This plan is about the future of our community, and it works best when it reflects the people who call this place home.

Come share your thoughts, ask questions, and be part of shaping what’s next.
