Hey neighbors, as hurricane season approaches again, we want to share this gently and with care.
We all just came through a very difficult storm, and many of us are still carrying what that experience felt like. There is no rush in this, and no pressure to do everything at once.
One small step that can help bring a little peace of mind is starting an emergency kit when and if you’re ready. It doesn’t have to be built in a day. You can simply add a few items over time during regular trips to the store.
If it feels helpful, a basic kit might include things like a few days of food and water, flashlights, batteries, medications, and other simple items that help you feel a bit more steady if services are disrupted.

Most importantly, take care of yourself and your people. We’re still in this together, and we’ll keep showing up for one another, one step at a time.
The 2026 hurricane season is just around the corner. On day two of Hurricane Preparedness Week, we encourage you to build a kit.
Building a kit does not have to be time-consuming. Pick up one or two items when you go to the store.
Consider what you would do if basic services like water, power, gas, and phones were not working for several days or more. Many of us experienced this during Helene.
Your kit should include:
• At least 3 days’ supply of food and water
• Battery-powered radio or NOAA Weather Radio
• Battery-powered flashlights
• Batteries
• First aid kit
• Personal hygiene supplies, baby supplies, sturdy shoes, waterproof gloves
• Medications
• Whistle to signal for help
• Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
• Local maps
• Cash
