In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, a group of us quickly mobilized from outside Western North Carolina to support recovery efforts. Within days, we launched the Western Carolina Emergency Network as a registered nonprofit, designed to coordinate relief operations, increase fundraising efficiencies, and share resources across multiple organizations.

For months, we worked closely -- organizing on the ground, raising funds, and collaborating virtually -- without ever meeting face to face. That finally changed last week when we met in person to share the National Service Award from the ReadyCommunities Partnership with those who could not join us in Hendersonville for the award presentation.

This award is also shared with the many drivers and volunteers who worked with us on the ground.
