Mission Statement:
“AltruWish is dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty by empowering children around the world with access to quality education and character development. We believe that investing in early education is the most effective way to create lasting change, equipping the next generation with the tools to build a brighter, more prosperous future for themselves and their communities.”
AltruWish is a portmanteau that combines the words altruism and wish. It embodies the spirit of altruists around the world working tirelessly to fulfill the dreams of children—to ensure they have access to quality education, good health, and a bright future. AltruWish was founded by a doctor, a teacher, and a military veteran who shared a belief that more can be done by charities to create a better world for future generations. The trio met while volunteering with various organizations and quickly realized that most charities were focused on treating symptoms of global issues rather than addressing the root causes. Many organizations aim to alleviate the suffering caused by poverty, but the core problem often lies in the lack of access to quality education. They believed that without targeting this root issue, lasting change would remain elusive. The founders strongly advocate for prioritizing primary education and character development for all children. Guided by the principle that it is better to teach a hungry man to fish than to simply give him a fish, they hold a deep conviction that education is the key to sustainable solutions. While pictures of starving children can be heartbreaking, providing food alone does not address the underlying issue. A comprehensive, long-term strategy that builds early childhood education and instills strong values in the next generation is essential to breaking the cycle of poverty. Equipped with a solid foundation, future generations will not only avoid repeating the mistakes of the past, but will also be empowered to forge their own paths to prosperity. AltruWish began working towards this vision in 2015 by supporting other education-focused charities. In 2018, the founders took up the challenge to directly conduct their own projects. That same year, AltruWish was officially incorporated as a non-profit organization and launched small initiatives in Belgium, the Philippines, the Congo, Jamaica, and Paraguay. To fulfill its mission, AltruWish plans to expand its operations and fundraising efforts globally. The organization aims to ignite the philanthropic spirit in younger generations by hosting benefit concerts featuring top artists from around the world. Ultimately, AltruWish aspires to raise the capital, sponsorships, and support needed to build schools in communities where they are most needed. If you are passionate about making a difference and believe in the power of education, we invite you to donate or join the AltruWish team on this exciting journey to create a better future for children, one child at a time.
