Thank you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets to support the hygiene care closets in Braxton County schools. Thanks to our supporters, over $1,000 was raised for these supplies. We appreciate the Sutton Lake Marina for donating the prizes so all monies raised will go to the schools.

The winners will be contacted directly and given their winning certificates, but in the meantime…the winners are:

Today we were honored to have Mack and Thelma Samples join us. Mack is a renowned musician, author, and storyteller. Thelma is a world class baker who makes pies and cookies that are beyond compare. Regional Assistant Governor Dave Long visited our club today to talk about Rotary goals for the upcoming year. He also presented our president, Krisey Riley, with the banner highlighting this year’s theme, Create Lasting Impact, for display at our meetings and events. Thank you, Dave, for coming and bringing your daughter, Ariana, who is also a Rotarian. Dave’s home club is in Buckhannon.

BC Rotary Club’s current fundraiser has a focus of helping stock the care closets in Braxton County schools.

What is it?
Hygiene care closets provide middle and high school students with discreet, no-questions-asked access to essential personal care items. These spaces normalize self-care, reduce absenteeism, and prevent bullying by ensuring no student has to attend class without basic necessities.

Why Care Closets Matter?
Builds Confidence: Adolescents are highly self-conscious about changing bodies and appearance. Having clean clothes and grooming products helps them fit in and focus on learning.

Removes Barriers: Basic hygiene items are often considered "luxury" products and are not covered by SNAP/WIC, meaning many families struggle to keep them in stock.

Fosters Trust: Providing a stigma-free way to grab necessities builds a strong, trusting relationship between students and school staff.
