If your pet needs to be spayed or neutered, now is a great time to get them on the schedule! Appointments are limited and tend to fill quickly, so we encourage you to book early.

Spaying and neutering not only helps keep pets happy and healthy, but also plays an important role in reducing pet overpopulation in our community.

🏛️ HOW TO ADVOCATE FOR SUMTER’S ANIMALS: COUNCIL MEETING GUIDE! 🐾🗣️

We love seeing our community get fired up and ask how they can attend local meetings to support our animal advocacy initiatives! Civic presence is exactly how we create lasting, street-level change.

In Sumter, we have two separate local government bodies that run on rotating weekly schedules. If you want to join us in the crowd or sign up for public comment, mark your calendars with these essential details:

1. 🏙️ Sumter City Council Meetings

When: 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month.

Time Rotation: The 1st Tuesday meeting starts early at 1:00 PM. The 3rd Tuesday meeting is an evening session starting at 5:30 PM.

Location: 4th Floor Council Chambers inside the Sumter Opera House (21 N. Main Street).

📌 Public Comment: City Council hosts an open citizen comment period at every 3rd Tuesday evening session. Make sure to fill out the lobby sign-in sheet 10 minutes before the start! Per the City of Sumter website, you must be a citizen of the City of Sumter to speak to Council during the “Comments by City Citizens” Period.

2. 🌳 Sumter County Council Meetings

When: 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month.

Time: Every regular session begins at 6:00 PM.

Location: County Council Chambers on the 3rd Floor of the Sumter County Administration Building (13 East Canal Street).

📌 Public Comment: Citizens can speak directly to the council regarding local community ordinances, welfare issues, or resource funding.

✨ The Power of Showing Up: When local officials look out from the dais and see a sea of animal advocates wearing red shirts, whether that be your official Code Red t-shirt from South Carolina Animal Welfare Alliance or simply another red shirt from your closet, it completely changes the conversation. That uniformed color is what unifies us as the animal advocates alliance on the front lines of change. Stay tuned to our page as we post reminders before each critical session. Free TNR! 🐈🐾🐈‍⬛️ And you do NOT have to be a Greenville resident! 😻

🐾 500 CATS. 2 DAYS. 1 BIG IMPACT. 🐾

We’re teaming up with Greenville County Animal Care and our regional partners once again to help even more outdoor cats across the Upstate! On Friday, September 18, and Saturday, September 19, we’ll be hosting a FREE, high-capacity Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) event with a goal of providing 500 spay/neuter surgeries for outdoor community cats. 💚

If you care for outdoor cats in your neighborhood, this event is for you! TNR is one of the most effective ways to help community cats by preventing unwanted litters, reducing the number of cats entering shelters, and creating healthier, more stable outdoor cat colonies.

Getting involved is simple: humanely trap outdoor/feral cats using a feral cat trap, then bring them to one of our event locations on September 18 or 19. No appointment is necessary! Each person may bring up to four cats, and cats must arrive in feral traps - not pet carriers. This event is specifically for outdoor/feral community cats, not owned or indoor cats.

Every cat will receive a FREE spay/neuter surgery, three-year rabies vaccination, distemper vaccination, and an ear-tip to identify them as already altered. After surgery and recovery, cats will be returned to their trappers so they can go back to the outdoor homes they know and love.

TNR is a simple idea with a BIG impact: fewer kittens, healthier community cats, and fewer cats entering shelters. Help us reach our goal of 500 surgeries and make a difference for the cats already living in our communities! 🐱💚

🌈 NATIONAL RAINBOW BRIDGE REMEMBRANCE DAY 🌈

Today, we remember the ones who left paw prints on our souls. 🐾❤️

Some furbabies are only with us for a chapter of our lives… but somehow, they become part of us forever.

Today, I’m remembering my own beloved angels:

🐾 Delilah - 2005
🐾 Thor - June 27, 2006

They may no longer be here for me to touch, hold, or hear their paws walking through the house, but their love never left. Their memories live on in the little things, the stories we still tell, the pictures we can’t stop looking at, and that empty spot in our hearts that only exists because they filled it so completely. ❤️

And today, I want to remember YOUR angels, too. 🌈🐾

🐾💚 MEET SWOOP...AND YES, HE REALLY IS THIS AWESOME! 💚🐾

This is Swoop. 🐱

And before anyone asks… NOPE. The costume photos are NOT AI. 😂

That little cowboy hat?
The bandana?
The whole getup?

Swoop actually lets me dress him up and doesn't mind one bit. 🤠🐾

I'll put a video in the comments as proof because, honestly, you have to see this cat to believe him. 😂

But there's so much more to Swoop than being ridiculously photogenic.

Swoop is approximately 1½ years old and is a handsome tabby boy who has been living in a local cat colony. He's TNR'd and, as of TODAY, he's current on his rabies vaccination. 💉✅

And this boy is FRIENDLY.

😻 He comes when I call his name.
❤️ He follows me everywhere.
😻 He lets me pick him up.
❤️ He lets me put a collar on him.
😻 He's a good car rider. 🚗🐾
❤️ He absolutely tolerates being dressed up. 😂
😻 And he has the sweetest, most personable little personality.

Swoop isn't just a cat I see at a colony.

He's a cat who is looking for his person.

The more time I spend with him, the harder it is to look at him and think that his future should be limited to life outside.

There are cats who are meant to remain community cats.

And then there are cats like Swoop who seem to be standing there saying:

“Okay… so when are we going home?” 🥹❤️

I believe Swoop deserves the chance to find out what it's like to have a warm bed, a safe home, a family and someone who calls him theirs.

🏠 Swoop is looking for his forever home.
