Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Hattie Mae Annette Dulin Redford. She was a dedicated educator, visionary leader and one of the Seven of '1922'. Her lifelong commitment to service and education continues to inspire us.

🗳️🍿🍪🥔🍎 The Vote Is In!

A very important election took place at our booth during the October 3 eSTEAM event. 😄

Children of all ages, from 1 to 100, stopped by to cast their vote for one very serious question:

What is your favorite snack?

The candidates were:
🍿 Popcorn
🥔 Potato Chips
🍎 Fruit
🍪 Cookies

And in a result that absolutely stunned us…

FRUIT CAME OUT ON TOP! 🍎🍓🍇🏆

Yes, fruit.

The underdog pulled off the upset and claimed the victory! 😂

Beyond the fun, the activity gave our young voters a chance to experience the voting process, make a choice, cast their ballot, and see how every vote contributes to the final result.

We loved seeing families stop by, laugh, debate their snack choices, and participate together.

Who knew democracy could taste this good? 💙💛

As we begin a new week, remember that protecting your peace is not selfish — it is necessary.

You do not have to give your energy to every situation, every request, or every distraction. Strength is not only found in pushing through. Sometimes strength is found in setting boundaries, taking a breath, and choosing what truly deserves your time and attention.

Be mindful this week of what fills you and what drains you.

This week, choose peace on purpose.

Sigmas in Service!

Epsilon Delta Sigma had a wonderful day at today’s eSTEAM event! The weather gave us a little heat and humidity 😅, but it certainly didn’t stop the fun. Our Sorors showed up, connected with families, and helped make the day a great experience for the kids and community.

We also spent the day talking with community members about the importance of being prepared to vote. We were excited to find that nearly everyone we spoke with was already registered, many knew their polling locations, and folks were ready and anxious to do their part in the upcoming election!

For those who stopped by with questions, we were able to share information about voter registration, polling locations, absentee voting, and other voting resources to help them make sure they are prepared. And for anyone who still needs to register online, October 4 is the deadline.

A special thank you to the members of Omicron Kappa Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. for partnering with us and helping bring everything together. We appreciate the collaboration and our shared commitment to serving the community.

And of course, service is always a little sweeter when you’re doing it beside your Sorors. There were plenty of laughs, lots of teamwork, and another day of making memories while our sisterhood continues to grow.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This month, we honor those whose lives have been impacted by breast cancer, including our beloved Soror Hattie McDaniel, who passed away from breast cancer in 1952 at the age of 57.

In her honor and memory, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. established the Hattie McDaniel Cancer Awareness and Health Program. The program was created to promote education, encourage early detection of breast, prostate, ovarian, colon, and other cancers, and support research focused on cancer prevention.

Today, this work has evolved into the Women’s Wellness Initiative, empowering chapters to address health issues that disproportionately impact women, particularly women of color.

We celebrate breast cancer survivors and honor their strength while working diligently to raise awareness and help create a future with more survivors.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. stands with survivors, honors those whose lives have been lost to domestic violence, and remains committed to promoting safety, healing, and accountability.
Domestic violence is not always physical. Abuse can take many forms, including emotional, psychological, financial, and digital abuse. This month, we encourage our communities to turn awareness into action:
