The 2008 and 2014 Penny For Progress projects helped Sumter's Fire Department receive a Class 1 rating, the highest rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO). This rating impacts our homeowner's insurance rates in a positive way. To keep the ISO rating at a Class 1, Sumter will need to continue to update their equipment.

Think of it this way...Are you still using a cell phone from 10 years ago? Probably not, because you needed updated technology or to replace a broken one. The same is true for our first responders.

Small Investment, Life Saving Impact. VOTE YES for the Capital Projects (Penny) Sales Tax.

The Capital Projects (Penny) Sales Tax will pave 18.34 miles of county dirt roads, and resurface 7.07 miles of county roads. State Roads are maintained by SCDOT and have to be addressed at state level (60.9% of our roads). The county can not maintain state roads. Private roads are not eligible for improvement using government funds (20.4% of our roads).

Out of the 351 miles of county roads that Sumter is able to maintain, 167 miles are dirt, 88 miles are rocked, and 96 miles are paved.

That means only 5% of Sumter's paved roads are owned by Sumter.

The good news: The penny tax helps Sumter have eligibility for state and federal matching. State and Federal matching means that Sumter would draw down additional funds from the State Department of Transportation to prioritize and expedite critical state road projects in Sumter County.

Let's get it done faster! More progress, safer roads.

On National Day of the Deployed Soldier, we honor the bravery and sacrifices of our service members serving far from home.

The men and women stationed at Shaw not only protect our freedoms but also strengthen our local bonds through unwavering commitment. We are grateful for the positive impact they have on Team Sumter.

Their commitment protects our freedoms, and today we stand united in gratitude and remembrance. Let’s celebrate their courage and resilience, and keep them in our hearts and thoughts.

Please join us in thanking their selflessness and dedication to our community!
