Mission Series - Week 2

What does forgiveness have to do with ending violence? Why on earth would we let violent people off the hook?! If I'm supposed to 'forgive and forget,' how could I ever forget what they did to me?!

All great questions. All questions with potentially life-changing answers.

Turns out forgiveness is incredibly healing, according to the Mayo Clinic; physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually healing for the victim. But also healing for the offender, according to decades of research by UW-Madison professor Robert Enright. Research says forgiveness has the power to break the generational cycle of trauma and abuse. Turns out true forgiveness doesn't let anyone off the hook; forgiveness yes, accountability yes. Turns out forgiving is NOT forgetting.

"The stupid neither forgive nor forget. The naive forgive and forget. The wise forgive, but they never forget." - Thomas Szaz, distinguished lifetime fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.

It’s almost scholarship time!

We’re getting close to one of our favorite times of year at The Love > hate Project — awarding the 2026 Jessie Blodgett Music Scholarships to young musicians who share Jessie’s love of music and its power to make a difference.

So how did the Jessie Blodgett Music Scholarship Program begin? In this video, Buck shares not only its history, but the moving moment when the endowment fund became a reality.

As we move into our second decade as an organization, one of our biggest goals is building a sustainable movement that will continue long after each of us is gone. And that includes Jessie’s scholarship.

While we’re getting ready to celebrate this year’s recipients, we’re also looking ahead. Our goal is to grow the Jessie Blodgett Music Scholarship beyond our community and eventually award scholarships to young musicians across the country.

Jessie understood the potential of music long before this scholarship existed. In her 11th-grade literature notebook, she wrote:

“Music is a universal language, a uniting art, a WAY to change the world.” — Jessie Blodgett

And she was onto something. 60% of adults believe music can influence human emotions and behavior in ways that motivate action on major societal issues.

That’s why we’re growing the Jessie Blodgett Music Scholarship Endowment Fund — creating a sustainable source of support that can reach more young musicians, year after year and generation after generation.

Help us celebrate this year’s young musicians — and help Jessie’s belief in the power of music continue to change the world.

"... this issue touches the lives of far too many people."

Golf equipment manufacturer Callaway has ended its relationship with Good Good Golf, effective immediately, following backlash for a video advertisement that depicted a man shoving a woman to the ground.

Some words are meant to do more than be read.

They're meant to make us pause. Think. Feel. Maybe even see something a little differently.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing words and passages from Buck Blodgett's A Message from Jessie, written following the loss of his 19-year-old daughter. It is the story behind the message that became The Love > hate Project.

It asks us to consider what we do with the things that happen to us — and whether, even in our hardest moments, we can respond with the best of our true selves.

Throughout its pages are words about love. Loss. Forgiveness. Compassion. And the choices we make about what we put back into the world.

We'll be sharing some of those words here — not simply to tell Jessie's story, but to keep the message it inspired moving forward.

We hope they make you pause. We hope they make you think. And maybe, every once in a while, they'll find you exactly when you need them.

You can find the book, A Message From Jessie, for purchase on our website.
