We are sending a huge thank-you to contemporary artist for joining Elevate+ yesterday as an outstanding guest in our third and final Role Model Conversation of the 2026 series.
In a thoughtful and candid conversation hosted by Elevate+ alum Cyreema Marshall, Marvin shared his journey from a first-generation college student and young freelance designer to a successful corporate professional and accomplished contemporary artist.
His advice to our interns was both practical and memorable: know your strengths, present your best work with confidence, and use interviews as an opportunity to demonstrate what you can contribute. For students pursuing creative careers, he also emphasized the value of showing the process behind their work, including the sketches, ideas, and decisions that lead to the finished product. But don't include unfinished work in your portfolio!
Marvin also spoke honestly about balancing financial stability with creative fulfillment, the importance of authenticity, and his thoughtful approach to using AI as a business tool while preserving the personal touch at the heart of his art.
We are grateful to Marvin for sharing his talent, experience, and wisdom so generously with our students. Conversations like these help young people see that careers rarely follow a straight path, and that success can be defined in many different ways.
