Last week, CNBC reported on the groundbreaking efforts of five bereaved mothers, including The Faris Foundation's Dr. Asha Virani, who “embody what it means to be a ‘rare disease avenger.’”

In a powerful act of unity and determination, these women – Lorna Day (The Sam Day Foundation), Laura Rutledge (The Rutledge Foundation), Dr. Ariella Ritvo-Slifka (The Alan B. Slifka Foundation), Dr. Felice Adler Shohet (The Shohet Family Fund), and Dr. Asha Virani (The Faris Foundation) – have funded a $1.5 million, three-year research initiative to advance cures for Ewing sarcoma.

Congratulations to this year's summer research interns at the Faris D. Virani Ewing Sarcoma Center at Texas Children's Cancer Center! Kimberly Hoang and Victoria Icke just wrapped up their eight-week internship, where they contributed to ongoing investigations at the Center while also growing their scientific skills and knowledge. Echoing the words of their research mentor Dr. Atreyi Dasgupta, we hope they gained a "deepened sense of wonder and an even greater belief in what science can make possible," and we look forward to seeing their journeys in science continue!

Earlier this month, Girl Scout Troop 122202 spent a morning volunteering their time with The Faris Foundation, helping wrap and pack Good JuJu Care Packages for children with cancer. When asked by their troop leader how they rated the experience out of 10, the scouts gave it a score of 100! 🌟

Last week, we celebrated signs of spring at Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston , with art-making, bouquet-building, and customized candy creations. Imaginations soared at our annual “Your Shoulders Should Have Wings” Art Party at Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center last week! Young artists at the outpatient clinic used materials of all kinds to create their own unique sets of wings. Thank you to our volunteers for sharing their creativity with us!
