Every American should know the name of Cecillia Wang—the hero who successfully defended birthright citizenship to the Supreme Court.
Wang is the ACLU’s National Legal Director and a birthright citizen.
She was born while her parents were in the U.S. on student visas, and received her citizenship through the 14th Amendment. Wang would go on to attend UC Berkeley, then Yale Law School. She clerked for then-Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, and later became the ACLU’s National Legal Director.
Earlier this year, she argued in defense of the 14th Amendment. Today, it all paid off.
Thanks to Wang, millions of people who are proud to call America their home can continue to do so. And because of her work, birthright citizenship remains the law of the land.
Cecillia Wang’s story is the story of America—and it represents the American Dream that Democrats will continue fighting for.
