Regency Society of Virginia Early 19th Century enthusiasts in the Old Dominion.

The Regency Society of Virginia is an organization for those who are fascinated by the British extended Regency and the corresponding American periods. We are a family-friendly, volunteer-run social group whose goal is to continually grow in our knowledge of a variety of topics relevant to the years 1790-1820. Whether you are a Janeite, an English Country or Regency dancer, a re-enactor, a costume historian, lover of period dramas, or just a history buff looking for others who share your love of the early 19th century, the RSV welcomes you!

The Regency Society of Virginia is proud to introduce
The Mirror-Repository

A new Quarterly publication offered EXCLUSIVELY to RSV Members.

This new publication will be in the style of the Regency period-ish magazine, that highlights RSV events, the Long Regency interests, and member/friends and their fashions. Whilst we may blur the line between history and fiction, it is the hope at all times to maintain a casual but informative Regency-era tone, and fate willing, a dose of wit. The publication strives to be informative and fun.

A free PDF download will be sent to all Primary RSV members as a benefit of your membership! Yes, that's right. All Primary Members will be receiving a free PDF copy of the magazine via email. No need to do anything (other than keep your membership current.)

BUT what if you want something more?
What if you'd like to feel like a real patron of the arts with your own, delivered to your door, high quality paper copy of the magazine? We would be most happy to oblige! As with the free PDF copy you must be a MEMBER to purchase the paper copies. Not a member? We'd love to have you join us- Join Us

Tickets to our Victory Ball Fancy Dress Masquerade are now open to everyone! The annual event will once again be held at the Country Club of Petersburg, on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Doors open at 6:30pm. In addition, a pre-ball buffet dinner will be served for those wishing to join us.

Fancy Dress Masquerades were a popular event in the Regency period. What a fun way to celebrate with friends by wearing a costume over your Regency finery. Dramatic costumes are encouraged but not necessary for attendance.

Join us as we listen to the lovely author and collector Candice Hern as she presents "What a Lady Carried in Her Reticule in the Time of Jane Austen", on Thursday evening, July 9th, 2026 at 8:00PM EST.

In this presentation, Candice will explain what a reticule was (called a ridicule during the Regency), how and why it developed during the Regency as an early version of the modern day purse, how they were made, and what Regency ladies might have carried in them.

The event is open to all and will be on-line via Zoom. To register for the event please go to:
