I have been able to share this story with many people over the past several years but some may not know this. It was never intended for Gus to be a wounded recovery dog. Gus was sent off to be trained to find antler sheds. A few weeks into his training the trainer calls me and says Curtis, I dont think Gus will make a good shed dog. He will find them all day long but he will not bring them back. He has a heck of a nose on him, he would make an amazing wounded recovery dog. I was a little down about this because it was not what I wanted at the time but with the amount of money already spent I agreed. After training and running some mock training drills myself with him at the facility we returned home. I was still a little skeptic on if this was something I wanted to do. Once we got that first call I was hooked. Not only did it provide us with the chance to help other hunters but it opened up a new opportunity for us to spread the Gospel of Jesus. At the begining I did not see what I wanted but God knew better than I did on what he needed me to do. Sometimes what we want and what God wants are two different things. If Gus had become a shed dog we would have never met, talked to, shared the Word with as many people. I am so thankful that his plan was better than mine and blessed to have met so many wonderful people in the process.
Trust his plan.
