The Toast of Stuart - Toastmasters A Toastmasters International club fostering confident communication, leadership, and professional networking – Tuesdays, 8:00–9:00 AM at The Cup on 2nd.

The Toast of Stuart – Toastmasters is Stuart, Iowa’s local club for public speaking, leadership, and professional growth – all served with a side of breakfast and community. We meet every Tuesday morning from 8:00 to 9:00 AM at Cup on 2nd. Members and guests enjoy open networking and coffee from 8:00 to 8:15, followed by a focused and encouraging Toastmasters session that helps build confidence, communication skills, and leadership presence. Whether you're a seasoned speaker or just starting your journey, you’ll find a warm, supportive environment where you can grow personally and professionally – one speech at a time.

**The Fuel of Persistence**

At our Aug. 11 Toast of Stuart meeting, members explored how persistence helps us continue moving forward despite obstacles and setbacks.

Warren Varley served as Grammarian and introduced the Word of the Day, **“cursory,”** meaning something done quickly or without close attention to detail. The meeting also included humor, prepared speaking, and an important reflection on su***de awareness, recognizing warning signs and checking on people who may be struggling.

Toastmasters provides a supportive place to practice:

Prepared and impromptu speaking
Communication and leadership skills
Constructive evaluations
Meeting roles and time management
Greater confidence in professional and everyday conversations

What happens when you mix inspiring stories, impromptu speaking, laughter, and great people?

You get another fantastic morning with the Toast of Stuart Toastmasters Breakfast Club!

This week, members gathered around our theme, "Mid-Summer Momentum," where Amanda Schwantes delivered an inspiring speech about embracing life's unexpected opportunities. She left us with a powerful reminder:

"Don't measure your life by how perfectly your plans unfolded; measure it by the courage you showed when life invited you to try something new."

We were also pleased to welcome Carrie Dostal, Area Director for Toastmasters District 211, who joined us for the meeting and led an enjoyable Table Topics session that had members thinking on their feet and sharing stories with confidence.

One of the best parts of Toastmasters is that no two meetings are ever the same. Every Tuesday brings a new theme, new conversations, and new opportunities to grow.

Great conversations. Great people. Great way to start a Tuesday morning!

This morning, members of the Toast of Stuart Toastmasters Breakfast Club gathered at the Stuart Public Library to strengthen their communication and leadership skills while encouraging one another to grow.

Our meeting theme was "The Safety Net of Open Communication," and members explored how honest conversations build trust, strengthen relationships, and help us become better leaders.

We also enjoyed an energetic Table Topics session, where participants practiced thinking on their feet by responding to impromptu questions, and welcomed a guest who joined in the fun!

Whether you're looking to become a more confident speaker, improve your leadership skills, or simply meet a great group of supportive people, we'd love to have you visit.

Beat the July Slump with Toast of Stuart!

What keeps you moving toward your next goal when motivation starts to fade?

That was the focus of this morning's Toast of Stuart Breakfast Club meeting as members gathered to strengthen their communication and leadership skills while encouraging one another along the way.

Our meeting featured:
A thought-provoking prepared speech by Karen Varley, who shared her Pathways presentation, "Iowa's Crown Jewels," and demonstrated how incorporating feedback makes every speech stronger.

Table Topics, led by Matt Funk, challenged members to share their next personal or professional milestone and explain why it matters. From growing businesses and mentoring future professionals to preparing for retirement and teaching the next generation practical skills, members delivered inspiring impromptu speeches that reminded us everyone is working toward something meaningful.

Of course, we also enjoyed plenty of laughter thanks to Jodi Bassett's Joke of the Day and expanded our vocabulary with the Word of the Day, "vicissitude," reminding us that life's ups and downs are opportunities for growth.

One of the best parts of Toastmasters is that you don't have to be an experienced speaker to join. Whether you're looking to become more confident speaking at work, in your business, at community meetings, or simply in everyday conversations, Toast of Stuart provides a welcoming and supportive environment to practice and grow.

Toast of Stuart Toastmasters Welcomes New City Administrator
Another great Tuesday morning at Toast of Stuart Toastmasters!
This week's meeting focused on the theme "Reframing the Narrative," reminding us that while we can't always control the circumstances we're given, we can choose how we respond to them.
We were pleased to welcome City Administrator Jalatama "Jolly" Omar as our guest. Jolly introduced himself to the club, shared his excitement about becoming part of the Stuart community, and even volunteered to serve as our Joke Master for the morning, earning plenty of laughs with his "Bison" joke.
Congratulations to Lisa Sherman, who delivered an inspiring speech about her life, volunteer service, and journey to becoming Director of the Stuart Public Library. Her message highlighted the importance of empathy, hospitality, and embracing opportunities to lead.
Our Table Topics session, led by Alan Wedemeyer, challenged members to share vacation stories that didn't quite go as planned, resulting in several entertaining and humorous stories from members.
As always, members received supportive evaluations and constructive feedback while continuing their Toastmasters Pathways educational journey.
Toast of Stuart meets every Tuesday from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. at the Stuart Public Library, and guests are always welcome. Wrapping Up an Incredible Toastmasters Year

What a great way to wrap up the 2025-2026 Toast of Stuart Toastmasters year!

This morning's meeting was filled with learning, laughter, encouragement, and a reminder of why our members enjoy being part of this club.

Outgoing Club President Matt Funk delivered his speech, "One Step at a Time." The speech reminded us that our backgrounds may explain where we started, but they do not determine where we can go. It encouraged everyone to take the next step in their own journey, wherever that may lead.

A big thank you to everyone who participated in today's meeting and to all of our members for making this past Toastmasters year such a rewarding experience.

Congratulations to our incoming officers, and especially to Karen Varley, who begins her term as Club President on July 1. We look forward to another exciting year of learning, leadership, and personal growth.

What happens at Toastmasters stays at Toastmasters... unless there's a dinosaur involved. 🦖

The Toast of Stuart Toastmasters Breakfast Club had another great meeting this morning at the Stuart Public Library. Members enjoyed a prepared speech by Jodi Bassett, impromptu speaking exercises, leadership development, and plenty of laughs.

Our Word of the Day was "Serendipity" – the occurrence of finding something valuable, interesting, or pleasant by chance. Looking at this photo, it seems we also found ourselves in a rather unexpected situation!
