ABOUT US
The Pocono Community Orchestra was officially established in September of 2016, under the direction of its Conductor and Musical Director, Dr. Betsy Buzzelli-Clarke, Many members of the group have been providing community concerts, and collaborating with other local groups to provide small ensemble and full orchestral accompaniment for countless artistic endeavors and projects. In 2002,
while serving as a professor in the Music Department at East Stroudsburg University, Dr. Buzzelli-Clarke established a string quartet. The group grew in quantity and quality. Her vision to involve not only the musical students of the University, but other community members and area musicians, resulted in the creation of the East Stroudsburg University/Community Orchestra. The orchestra not only provided the college students with exposure to a varied classical and popular musical repertoire, it created access and opportunities for members of the community as well--both as audience and performers. From children’s concerts to renowned classical compositions, the group attracted enthusiastic audiences of all ages. After 14 successful years under the supportive umbrella of East Stroudsburg University, the orchestra expanded both its vision and scope, and, in 2016, became a new entity. The Pocono Community Orchestra's Inaugural Concert was held at Stroudsburg High School, on Sunday, January 31, 2017. The orchestra is currently in the process of obtaining its 501©(3) status, and is actively seeking grants and donations that will provide the necessary resources that will enable them to reach even more people of all ages with the healing and unifying power of music. Although the orchestra has changed its name and performance venue, it remains true to its illustrious legacy. The Pocono Community Orchestra still provides free Winter and Spring Concerts, and continues to lend its musical talent in support of many local projects and programs. With members from ages 15 to 83, it represents many ethnic groups and welcomes players of varying ability. Whether a professional musician or an enthusiastic instrumentalist, all PCO musicians have the most essential things in common: a love of music, and a desire to share the magic of music with the community. If you are interested in making beautiful music with us, we’d love to have you join us!
