For many college students, summer means heading home.
For some of the students we support, there isn't a home to return to.
Many students who have experienced foster care remain in campus housing throughout the summer because they don't have stable housing during school breaks. While their classmates head home, they stay behind and continue navigating college, work, and daily life on their own.
According to The National Foster Youth Institute, approximately 1 in 4 young people who age out of foster care experience homelessness within a few years of leaving care, and former foster youth face significantly higher rates of housing instability than their peers.
At the Mary Graham Scholarship Foundation, scholarships help cover more than tuition and books. They help students maintain stability, stay enrolled, and continue working toward a degree or career without worrying about where they'll sleep during the next school break.
Every student deserves a place to call home and the opportunity to build a brighter future.
