Yet another example of subhuman garbage proving that dogs are better than people.

While my wife and I were staying in San Antonio for my cancer treatment, some jackasses broke into my shop at the rescue and cleaned it out. Over $40,000 of hand tools, power tools, oxy acetylene torch, plasma torch, mig welders, Tig welders, stick welders, and more, tools I've collected over nearly 60 years, which these days just help me build kennels, fences, buildings, keep the tractor and vehicles running.. all gone. Every bit of it, my entire shop. All of our money goes to the dogs and medical insurance, so no insurance at all. Just cleaned out.
I'm former law enforcement, I was hoping our new sheriff was actually going to be effective, but neighbors say no officer has even contacted them to ask if they saw anything. The only access to the property is through one of two neighbors land, and they were never contacted. So we'll never see a thing. Same old same old.
I use the mig, Tig, and plasma torches to build and repair kennels and fence frequently, and we can't afford to replace this stuff. Unfortunately this may be the end of our rescue.
Damn these criminal garbage heaps. Cancer isn't enough I guess, they have to make things even worse. We just want to take care of these dogs, who take care of us. We get military dogs that risked their lives on the battlefield, and punks like these basically steal from them.

I'm so angry and frustrated.

Ya’ll are amazing! The dogs now have 3 weeks of food without me having to worry during my recovery. I’m here at the surgical hospital and checked in. Just waiting to go back. My time got delayed.

Also please say a prayer, think good thoughts for us, or whatever good energy you want to send us right now. Of all nights, Flip started having seizures at about 1 AM. We ran through almost all of our emergency midazolam, so we left for Floresville to pick more up at 6 AM. He was doing much better and we thought everything had calmed down, but when we got to I 10 and IH35 on my way back home, we had to use three of the five syringes of Medazolam to pull him out of a really nasty seizure. hubby dropped me at the door here bawling, and took off for the emergency clinic. Currently being evaluated at MissionVet & Specialty hospital and his seizures have subsided for the moment. Hopefully he will be back to his old self by the time they let me out of the hospital.

UPDATE: 1/2 way there! Thanks to some very generous folks, we are halfway to our goal. We only need 6 more 50 pound bags of feed to cover the projected time I will be out of work. 🙏🙏 The feed posted in the picture is the brand we’re currently using due to price, but we do accept any brand of dog food donation.

Monday is the big day! 2nd Hip replacement at 7 AM. Thanks to a very generous neighbor, I will have someone taking care of the dogs while I recover the first couple weeks, since Jamie is unable to care for the dogs while he is on chemo.

Our only issue now is we are about a dozen 50 pound bags of dog food short of having my downtime from work covered. 12 x $24.99= $299.88 total.

We are so close, yet so far from being completely ready and alleviating my worries while unable to work.

If anyone is able to send any dog food donations, our way we would be so grateful! They are currently on the retriever brand mini chunk from tractor supply because its the best price we can find for the quality, but we are open to any brand food donations. I am available to pick them up this weekend.

We also have both paypal and Venmo. Anything is greatly appreciated more than you know.❤️🐾

Long overdue update. Due to economic hardship and Jamie’s medical issues we stopped accepting new intakes, except occasionally in the most dire of circumstances the end of 2022. We have only taken in 4 new dogs since then, and have worked hard to adopt out any dogs with non-aggressive issues to reduce our monthly expenditures. However, we still have 12 dogs that aren’t able to be rehomed and are considered sanctuary long termers. We have been feeding/funding the sanctuary animals solely from my paychecks. However, due to Jamie’s recent string of hospitalizations, with his current one still ongoing at St Luke’s, we could really use some help.

Just one 50lb bag of food can make the difference for us this month and next month, as I go in for a 2nd hip replacement on Nov 6th and will have to pay a neighbor to feed and water for a couple weeks, on top of the regular feed bill. We have both paypal and Venmo, or if you’d rather, we’d be happy to pick up actual bags of food. Anything is greatly appreciated more than you know.❤️🐾

We are currently feeding the retriever brand mini chunk dogfood because it is the cheapest of the mud quality dog food we can find. Normally it sells for $26-28, but the tractor supply in Cibolo sells the 50lb bag for $24.99. Doesn’t seem like a lot, but the savings add up. If you donate bags of food we are not super picky other than no Ol Roy please. I can’t keep any weight on the dogs with that one and vets have told me about folks losing dogs from nutritional deficiencies on that one.

Attention

Looking to rehome my children, ages 10, 11, 17. Honestly, I didn’t do enough research about having kids before making this commitment & they just don’t fit into mine & my dog’s schedules anymore. The dogs and I are so busy. Also, the kids are starting to have behavioral issues that they never had as newborns & we’ve tried everything to work through these issues but it’s not improving & we just can’t have this much of a liability in our home anymore. They are ruining my marriage due to stress, waking me up early & tearing up my house, ruining my furniture, my walls, everything. Also, we’re moving & have found a home with an awesome yard for my dogs but just couldn’t find one with enough bedrooms for these kids.

It’s saddens me (please no judging or negative comments) and I am aware of how much emotional damage this will be on them & probably never fully recover from being abandoned but it’s just the circumstance we’re dealing with but please PM me if interested.

Sorry not sorry. I had to say it. 🤷🏻‍♀️😂🤣😂 This sounds like most of these dog rehome posts to me. Sitting here thinking, what do you do if you have a problem with your actual kid? Because they give us the same inconveniences. It’s the same 18+ plus year commitment that honestly most of us had no idea how to deal with certain children’s behaviors but you figure it out & work through it. I do understand certain circumstances like death or serious illness of the owner but these daily posts sound ridiculous.

Borrowed😂🤣😂

6:00am update - GOOD NEWS!! All blood tests have come back completely normal. Since Epilepsy is actually diagnosed by ruling out all other health conditions, they had to run a bunch, but Flipis now diagnosed as epileptic. After his 2 loading doses of keppra, Flip should be able to come home tomorrow evening and have a fairly normal life for the low monthly prescription cost of $80-$100/month. This is definitely the most expensive dog I’ve ever owned between the leg amputation, numerous respiratory infections as a puppy, that he eventually outgrew, only to begin seasonal allergies requiring $100 cytopoint injections every few months. Even with all that and now his new monthly meds, he is worth every penny and gives back exponentially in puppy dog kisses and snuggles❤️ In about 12hrs or so, our baby boy will be coming home❤️🐾

4:00am Update- Dr. Greiner visited with us and said he is having cluster seizures. He is about 99% certain, with Flips age and previous health history, he is epileptic. They are running a full cbc to rule out any other issues like cancer, kidney disease, and brain or liver tumors. We will be waiting for about an hour to get those results and hopefully rule all that out. If that is the case, once we get the results, we will head home and get some sleep while Flip stays and gets 2 loading doses of keppra throughout the day. He will come home at 8pm with emergency midazolam to stop any future epileptic seizures if one starts, and keppra that he will have to take every 12 hours the rest of his life. If for some reason they aren’t able to rule everything else out, we’ll, we aren’t even going to talk about that……

1:30am Update - Flip had another seizure. Dr. Greiner was able to administer midazolam and stop the seizure after approx 30 seconds. He came out of it quickly and with much less disorientation than the 1st one. He is now a priority level 1 hospitalization.

Please think good thoughts for our Flipper boy🙏 He just had an almost 5 minute seizure, was foaming at the mouth, eyes bulging, and then remained stiff for a long time after it ended. He was also disoriented and didn’t recognize us at all for many minutes after. He kept growling at us and acting completely disoriented. We really thought we’d lost him tonight. He’s in the back ER being evaluated now to make sure he’s stable enough to sit with us for the 10hr wait to be thoroughly examined. There may be a very long wait since they triage by severity and apparently there are a lot of sick pets tonight, but this place is the best and worth the wait. Also, he will be taken back for immediate treatment if he becomes unstable for any reason while waiting. Only the best for our Flipper baby❤️6am update

Owning a German shepherd is a lot of work. They take a lot of time, energy, and money to take care of. Not only are they high-maintenance dogs, but they’ll also completely change your life. Here are some things you can no longer do when you own one: 1. Sit on the best seat on the couch IG|penny.an...

ELSA NEEDS YOUR HELP!!

Elsa is a (just turned) 2yr old, unaltered female GSD. She had an appt to be spayed, but came into heat, so it got postponed. She is a sweet, well behaved GSD mostly, but recently had a serious altercation with her roommate, an in-tact female Pomeranian. With having a newborn and then witnessing the altercation, it was enough to cause an owner surrender. (This info is just to explain why she is being surrendered. It’s not to bash her previous owners or to invite anyone else to do that. This was a tough decision for them and they did what they could to change their situation and find her a new home.)

Unfortunately, being an owner surrender and all the no kill shelters currently full, we all know she is down to her last remaining 24hrs of living.

Our rescue/sanctuary currently has closed all intakes, as my husband is still undergoing chemo every 3 weeks, and the day before Thanksgiving, will also be starting up radiation again. Right now I have so little time to dedicate to the dogs since I’m working approx 60hrs a week to afford keeping the health/cancer insurance in full force and to keep all the bills paid, including $800-1000/month for rescue dog food. My time and finances are stretched so thin, but I just can’t let them put Elsa down if there’s something we can do.

I have picked her up and temporarily doubled up a couple pups, so she can have her own kennel due to not being spayed yet and all dogs needing a 14 day intake quarantine.

All of our kennels are out doors and if you know Texas, right now is one of those rare occasions where it is not only downright cold, but also raining a lot. Elsa will need us to build her a doghouse today, and cover the top of her run. We will also need to buy 2 extra heaters. She needs to see the vet to be spayed, and will need to stay for boarding a few days after to ensure she’s healing well, without infection, before bringing her back to an outdoor kennel. In addition, she will also need her own 10x10 kennel until fostered or adopted out, because the other pups can’t stay doubled up long. Then there’s immunizations, heartworm testing, and flea/tick/heartworm prevention.

I know this is asking a lot, as we figure each new intake usually runs us approx $500 to get set up, but needing to be spayed and brought up to date on immunizations, plus not having enough kennels added to the current nasty weather situation, will run approx $700-$900 to keep Elsa taken care of properly and keep her safe from the kill shelter list.

We know with this economy and the holidays coming up, everyone is tight, but even if you only have $5-10 to spare, Elsa sure could use your sponsorship!! For the price of one fancy Starbucks or Dutch Bros coffee, your donation could make the difference between life and death for Elsa!
