Blunt reminder: if you are going to own animals, you need to be willing and able to make ethical decisions regarding their end of life.

I’m sure everyone has heard the saying “let them go on a good day.” I don’t know that everyone truly understands the meaning.

Letting them go on a good day means not making the 32 year old arthritic broodmare suffer through one more winter just because “she’s still happy” even though her weight is dropping and those hills are getting harder on her.

Letting them go on a good day means exhausting all options and making the call for that 9 year old with a genetic disease that’s running its course even while others argue “but he could be happy in the pasture.”

Letting them go on a good day is knowing that late twenties bonded pair needs to go together, even if one isn’t as physically ready, the mental toll will be the downfall.

We are advocates for our animals. That means being the ones to give them a voice, even when that voice is saying “it’s time for me to go.”

And bluntly, if you cannot handle making that decision, if you are so selfish you cannot see the unnecessary suffering or pain, or if you are so uneducated as to not knowing what those markers are, you do not need to own a horse.

Good or bad, young or old, babysitter or outlaw, horses die.
It is your job to give them dignity in death.

💙 An Important Update from Dragon Stables Equine Center

Sometimes life changes in ways no one expects.

This week, we received a 45-day notice of lease termination for the pasture that has been home to Dragon Stables for the past four years. This is a no-fault termination—our landowner has experienced significant personal life changes and has made the difficult decision to place the property on the market.

We completely understand and support her decision, and we're incredibly grateful for the years she has allowed our horses a safe place to heal.

For many of our rescued horses, this pasture has been the first place they've truly been able to decompress. It's where they've learned to trust again, recover from neglect, and slowly return to work. Our Barn Buddies program has also flourished here, giving our horses room to roam while still having access to the indoor arena next door during Oklahoma's unpredictable weather.

Now, we have 45 days to determine our next chapter.

At this time, we don't know the purchase price if we have the opportunity to buy the property, and we don't yet know where we'll relocate if purchasing isn't possible.

Here's how you can help:

🐴 If you know of available property, we're looking for:
• At least 15 acres
• Existing perimeter fencing (or the ability to install/cross-fence)
• Permission for minor improvements such as run-in shelters, gravel around water areas, and temporary fencing
• Space for a portable round pen and riding area
• Ideally located within reasonable distance of Stillwater, Oklahoma

Barely 6 weeks ago our small pasture was mowed over the next 6 weeks as our immediate and long term future attempts to take shape, we will try to do better on keeping you all appraised of the situation.

We have been served with a notice of lease termination- this is a "no fault" termination. This is simply because the property owner has had some significant life changes and has chosen to list the property for sale. We are talking to a MLO (Mortgage Loan Officer) however at this time it does not look promising to be able to secure the loan needed to make a serious offer on the property.

Everyone saw Dr L today.
Puddin - got her X-Rays redone, we try to redo them every 5 years or so unless shes showing symptoms or lameness, she will be treated for EPM, we did not test for PPID (shes only 11) but will be adjusting her diet
Clever L - just got called a big boy and took everything like a champ
Clever an - was just as affectionate as always and tried to smuggle hugs
Zepper - was the typical wild child and needed lots of comfort and reassurance that every thing was ok - according to her it was not as she got poked a couple times (not a needle fan)
